Samsung A50 vs Huawei p30 lite.

Hi All,

I've been doing some reach on these two phones as I am looking at buying a new one. The p30 lite is really the one that I want but it doesn't come with a dual SIM plus an extra place for a memory card where as the Samsung does. The samsung also has a much better screen and processer (barely) other wise the rest of the specs seem to be the same.

But, if any of you have these phones please advise what you think of them, I work in IT and will be connecting to servers and sending out emails. The odd game every now and again. The Samsung seems to be better but I've always loved Huawei. Thank you for you help. Much appreciated.
 
Regarding dual Sim phones, usually MTN and Vodacom deactivate the second sim. Double check it is activated if you buying the phone from them
 
I'm absolutely loving my A50, hey. It feels good in hand, the screen is stunning, camera and camera features are great, it's super snappy, 128GB with up to 512GB SD card optional, and two days from a single charge. Samsung One UI is a pleasure to use - nice layout and features, user friendly, nice icons and minimal bloat. I haven't tried the 2nd sim slot. I got it from Vodacom too hastily, which was a bad decision as it's going to end up costing almost double retail. And Vodacom bloatware... sigh. Should have bought it cash.

The in-screen fingerprint reader is very hit or miss, so I don't use it. And the Samsung keyboard's autocorrect is absolutely horrendous, so it's been switched out for SwiftKey.

I've unfortunately never gotten over my bitterness toward Huawei after having a P8 Lite, and every new one I use finds some way to trigger me, so excuse the bias.

Thank you for all the help. I was looking and it seems like the processing power of the A50 is actually better then the A70 but less ram. Another thing I am worried about the the plastic back does it scratch easily. You would say that the phone is fine to basically do all my work from if need be. I have a Redmi S2 and it was great at the beginning and now after 1.5 years its slowed down by quite a lot. Im going to buy this phone on contract for about 350 a month and at least every two years I can upgrade. (It is my first contact ever) I only use the finger print scanners so that also makes me a bit worried but I guess that is something I can work around. And the A50 seems way better than the P30 Lite. And has a much better screen.

Yeah, it just depends on your price point really. Midrange phones are powerful enough now for it not to be an issue anymore.

I'm struggling to let go of my awesome Samsung A7 2017, so I'm dual wielding at the moment. :laugh: With that I was connecting to servers often, as well as doing desktop support over TeamViewer while at the same time talking to the user over a WhatsApp call. No issues. It was perfectly happy with games like PUBG and Minecraft too. So the A50 will handle all of that easily, I just haven't got around to testing all of it yet.

I would rather not test how easily the back scratches haha, but I'm sure it does. The cool thing is Samsung includes a phone case in the box, and a screen protector already on the phone. Big thumbs up there.

It's a pity the A50 doesn't have an option for a backside fingerprint reader like the A30, but oh well.

Your Redmi issues would likely be sorted with a new battery. It's still nice getting a new phone, though.

So I did it and got the A50 and I have to say I am really enjoying it, BUT... I think I got a dud... I am really fast at typing and this phone registers about 85% of the times I touch the screen which is really really annoying. and is causing me slow my typing down by more than half. Sometimes I have to touch the button about 3 time just for it to do 1 "A" this happens when typing, trying to use the navigation keys and just opening up apps. Also when I put my phone down then there is a loud noise that comes from it like something important is loose on the inside which could be contributing to the issues I am having with my screen. Anyway, I have 7 days to take it back so i'm taking it back tonight.

After all the negatives here, I have to say the colours of the screen are amazing and I really am enjoying it as this is the highest spec phone I have ever had (I cant justify spending R1000 p/m on the latest phone which can do everything this phone can). I really am enjoying it. I am having no issues with my fingerprint scanner though It did take a couple of time and practice to add the finger in the right way. I would say its a 98% success rate then using it. :laugh:

Had the same choice to make and ended up going with the A50 because:

- DAT AMOLED Screen (hold the 2 side by side and you'll notice)
- one UI is really great for one handed use (also look into getting nicelock from XDA Labs for some cool mods)
- cameras are great for the price (Latest Firmware update also gives night sight)
- The Exynos 9610 is reported to be on par with the chip in the Galaxy S8 Vs the Kirin 710 which apparently is not so great
- Bixby routines is really useful for automating stuff (check it out) - I dont know i huawei has something similar
- Dual sim + SD Card

That's awesome, congrats! My mom's one had that issue as well, I think it's because of the screen protector. Increasing the touch sensitivity fixed it. Settings > Display > Touch Sensitivity toggle (at the bottom). And also install SwiftKey keyboard, the Samsung one is very slow.

The loose thing inside is normal, it's just the camera lens. My A7 and A50 do it too and all new Samsungs have it. I found this on the Samsung forum about it.
Your device is not faulty – the sound is due to the Camera Lens Barrel required to operate the Auto Focus function.

Yeah, the screen is beautiful! That's really cool, it's a good choice. I also can't justify that much, it's crazy. Oh ok, that's cool the fingerprint reader is working for you. I must give it another chance.

Edit: Oh, and to increase your battery life disable the screen wake features. They were just annoying me anyway. Settings > Advanced Features > Motions and Gestures > Lift to Wake / Double Tap to Wake.

I just got an A50 as a work phone, very impressed with it. Screen is fab and it's no problem with power as I flick through 1080p movies seamlessly.

Regarding the fingerprint scanner, it is a bit hit and miss as you say, so what do you use to unlock your phone?

Lekker, congrats! Ja, it's a great little device.

Ag, I didn't actually give it much of a chance, hey. And I'm also going on what I've heard from other people, but some say it works ok for them. I'll give it another try this weekend.

At the moment for between home and work I'm just using a pattern unlock, with 2 minute timeout. So the phone only locks 2 minutes after I switch the screen off. If I go somewhere more risky then I change it to pin unlock.
 
I just checked and it says software is up to date.

I’m using the fingerprint scanner and I’m quite okay with it. I get a not recognised every 4th or 5th scan, but I’m now getting better at knowing where to place my thumb so it’s improving. It’s maybe slow compared to the face scan on my iPhone for example, but no big deal for me.
