So I just noticed this discrepancy. I registered my sister's Vodacom App for her quickly so that we can check if she got her new new data allocation when she upgraded her phone a few weeks ago to the Samsung A34. I noticed she has full 5G coverage whereas my Samsung A52s only has 4G+ at our house. My sim is definately activated for 5G because I do get 5G in a lot of areas as I drive during the week for work. Why dont I get 5G at home though and she does?

My Samsung has a Snapdragon chip and her A34 has a MediaTek chip...but I checked and the Snapdragon supports pretty much all 5G bands as well as standalone and non standalone 5G.

What gives?

@Ockie - I suspect the differing frequency/channel differences - see specs from Gsmareana. Suggesting you refer this the Samsung Tech to clearup.

Thank you @VC-1

Seems she also no longer gets 5G inside our property. Suppose it was just a fluke. If you move like 50 meters out of our garage gate then you pick up 5G.

Vodacom 5G coverage is very patchy though. I always drive with my Android Auto on and keep a eye on the signal indicator and one moment you have 5G, then back to LTE, then back to 5G and so it goes on.

As the lower frequency bands become available for use that Vodacom bought spectrum in, hopefully they deploy 5G in these lower bands and 5G coverage will become more blanketed and not so erratic.

So now my phone also picking up 5G inside the property like my sister's A34. I put on a new silicone cover today ... maybe that made a difference (kidding) lol.

out of interest do you need a special sim for 5g? Cause my wife has the A34 5G and it still keeps saying lte
