Samsung ChatOn ... another BBM competitor

I'm looking forward to this - my sis has a Wave 2, my bro a Nokia feature phone, so WhatsApp and their ilk not much good for me.
 
Oh look exactly what we dont need in the world..... another iMessage/BBM/whatsapp/viber/Google Talk/Skype

Can the world please pick one so we can kill off the rest, nothing says kill battery life as running 15 chat apps in the background.
 
Sticking with Whatsapp personally I don't need a chat app for every bloody phone. If Nokia had developed this 3 years ago maybe it would have made sense as they were a behemoth, now not so much.

I agree 100% WhatsApp serves all my needs. Sorry Samsung...but I think this boat has sailed.
 
Since moving away from BlackBerry I haven't found a BBM replacement as reliable as BBM. WhatsApp and Viber frequently lets me down. I tested WhatsApp the other day between my SGS2 and my wife's iPhone and it showed two ticks on my phone and the message hasn't even gotten through to the iPhone yet. I did this test because I suspected that this was happening.

On Viber I too frequently get "server not available" issues.

Like Elimentals said, we don't want more of these, but I wish one would rise to the top that is as reliable as BBM.

Samsung should have rather bought the WhatsApp devs and pumped money into it, we really don't need another IM client, especially with FaceBook Messenger on the horizon. Translator ten bazuje na bazie słów i zwrotów należącej do firmy Google oraz Bing - zasoby tego słownika są ciągle rozwijane i korygowane przez miliony ludzi na całym świecie, efektem tego jest ciągłe ulepszanie tłumaczeń. Zgadzam się na dowolne wykorzystanie mojego tekstu do tłumaczenia przez biuro tłumaczeń, w szczególności umieszczenie tekstu do tłumaczenia w publicznie dostępnym archiwum i uwzględnienie słownictwa w opracowywanych narzędziach wspomagających tłumaczenie (CAT) takich jak słowniki, glosariusze i translatory online. Aby zobaczyć ostatnie dodane teksty wybierz dzień tygodnia. Już wkrótce uruchamiamy internetowe słowniki polskie, angielskie i niemieckie: słownik polski, słownik polsko-angielski, slownik angielsko-polski, słownik polsko-niemiecki i słownik niemiecko-polski. W przygotowaniu nowy tłumacz i translator polski, niemiecki, francuski, czeski i włoski oraz słownik ortograficzny, słownik wyrazów obcych, slownik wyrazów bliskoznacznych i slownik synonimów.

Yup, a samsung skinned variant of whatsapp for free would be awesome. Bloody stupid creating yet another closed ecosystem.

I wish RIM would bring BBM to other platforms as it said it would. That will unite us all on one IM platform. It seems that they are struggling to sort out the non-PIN/non-BIS registration and message handling system.

+1, finally badaOS has an IM app and it will be universal. I played around with chaton over the past few days, unfortunately its unreleased so I haven't added anyone yet to chat with, but interface looks good

Can someone please tell me how to install ChatON on Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and Samsung Wave 525?
 
Any news yet on when it will launch in SA?

They said that it will be launched in September, and the month is nearing its end...

reliable as bbm ? you obviously havent had a blackberry for a while ;) and i have a BB and a galaxy, and an iphone. Whatsapp in the last year hasn't let me down ! BBM has got more reliable this last year aswell to be fair :)
