Samsung considers KitKat update for entry-level smartphones

Samsung's plans for updating its high-end tier of smartphones have already been unveiled and we know the Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy S4 are getting Android 4.4 KitKat in January.

As it turns out, though, the manufacturer is considering also bringing the latest version of Android to its more affordable droids.

A leaked internal document shows that Samsung is investigating the Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Core, Galaxy Fame, Galaxy Ace 2 and the Galaxy Fresh to see if they are capable of running KitKat smoothly.

As you might known the latest iteration of the Google OS lowers the minimum RAM requirement to just 512MB, but that's not including the custom TouchWiz skin that Samsung preinstalls on its smartphone.

Mind you, as per the leaked slide, Samsung is just investigating the compatibility and hasn't officially announced any firm plans.

Every time I see a Kit Kat with the green Android logo I imagine we're now getting Green Tea Kit-Kat, which is flavour one can buy in Japan. Sadly, so such luck.

If the S2 gets it, it would be hard for me to choose any other brand in future.

The s2 will get it if not from samsung, cyanogen mod will have kitkat ready to go in no time.

I think it makes it a lot easier for ROM builders/cooks to get everything working if they have a official release to dismantle.

I am already running the CM11 KitKat builds on my S2. Runs beautifully!

Everything working? I tired to install a CM11 build on a S3 mini the other day -camera doesn't work on it yet.

I can't vouch for the S3 mini, but the S2's CM11 builds from Infected are pretty stable. Haven't had issues so far.
