Samsung Dex Wannabe (desktop experience going cheap)

Anyone used the Samsung Dex el-cheapo hub yet?

If you're an average Office 365/G-Suite + Chrome or Firefox user then this can for sure replace your PC.



I bought the hub for $26 couple of weeks ago and imported it.
not sure if these particular models are available in SA, maybe they are.


This thing was a MASSIVE hit at the office.
All our road warriors want one so they ditch their laptops.


It supports
S8 & S8+
S9 & S9+
Note8 & Note9

Wired keyboard & mouse (or wireless) + HDMI .

Have to admit, Samsung's "desktop experience" is VERY impressive to say the least.

Some apps don't yet function in full screen mode but the usual suspects do (Office, Chrome)

Ditching laptops I understand, but then what about carrying around a monitor?

Laptops are for working flexi time, from home. Not for visiting clients...

clients have projectors or flatscreens to connect to.

Does the Samsung DeX cable only work with Note9 and Galaxy Tab? Or should I rather ask, does it not work with S9?

For the hub you suggested here, do you need to connect an external power source to the hub for DeX to work?

yes,

the connections are:


1) phone charger connects to the hub
2) HDMI cable conencts to the hub (and to a monitor)
3) USB keyboard connects to the hub
4) USB mouse connects to the hub
5) phone connects to the hub

when phone is connected it recognises the Dex platform and switches to desktop mode.

Takealot has a Samsung DeX Station for R399, cheap!
I don't get audio over HDMI to my TV for some reason...
