Samsung Digital Cam - Help?

Hi

I have just bought a DV cable to link my Samsung cam to my PC via USB.
(The Cam comes with a cable with RCA connections and one SVideo - but my PC doesnt have the necessary connections for this.)

However I just cant get my PC to recognise this USB connection at all.
I have googled all over, downloaded software etc and still no luck.

I have also downloaded "20050908173740625_MPEG4_Movie_Decoder_of_Mini_DV" - which is listed under Drivers on the Samsung web site for this cam model, but I dont know what to do with this anyway.

Does anyone know what drivers I need, any help will be appreciated.

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't the DV cable supposed to plug into a IEEE 1394 Firewire port and not into the USB port?

Does it have to plug in that way ?

This is basically my main question I suppose. Can it work via USB?
 
Did you get the Samsung camera with a cellphone contract? As the VP-D371i (which I have) only has a firewire (IEEE 1394) port, and once connected to the PC via a firewire card and cable (4 to 6 pin firewire cable) is identified as soon as it is switched to player mode, and allows importing of video.

So it cannot work via USB - thats a definate?
 
Nope, no USB support on the on that comes with the contracts.

As for a firewire card, in the region of R300 when I last checked (maybe cheaper now) but well worth it. A firewire cable will set you back about R125 if you shop around (got a Belkin yesterday for R125)

I dumped some footage last night via VISTA, very easy to do. VISTA picked up the DV-Cam as soon as I connected it and was simple wizard based from there on.
 
From the specs on Samsungs website, it seems that it only communicates via firewire with a PC.
