Now that we’re nearing the end of 2019, Samsung appears all set with its 2020 Galaxy A lineup that bridges the gap between flagships and budget handsets. The South Korean tech titan today introduced a pair of smartphones under the series — the Galaxy A71 and the Galaxy A51. The two phones pick some of the most identifiable features from their more premium siblings in the Galaxy S and Note series, while still maintaining their relatively affordable prices.

Galaxy A71

The Galaxy A71 has a 20:9 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display on the front with a hole-punch camera in the center, akin to the Galaxy Note 10 models. There is a fingerprint scanner underneath that display, but we can’t surely say if it’s of the optical or ultrasonic variety. On the inside, you’ll find an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 running everything along with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

Aside from that, the Galaxy A71’s back houses a cluster of four cameras, one of which is a macro lens, while the primary shooter has a 64MP sensor. It’s fueled by a 4500mAh battery that supports fast charging using a 25W brick. The phone is said to come preloaded with Android 10-based One UI 2.0, though Samsung has yet to confirm this fact.

Right now, we don’t have any detail on how soon you can grab the Galaxy A71 in your country, nor do we know its retail price. But we hope these details will emerge when Samsung begins the rollout process.

Galaxy A51

Despite being positioned below the Galaxy A71, the Galaxy A51 isn’t really all that different. You’ll find a slightly smaller 6.5-inch FHD+ display that still has a hole-punch camera and an in-display fingerprint reader. The A51 offers an additional RAM and ROM configuration of 4GB+64GB and has a smaller 4000mah battery with 15W charging support. Its primary sensor has a lower 48MP resolution and f/2.0 aperture versus f/1.8 on the A71.

The Galaxy A51 has already got a price tag of 7,990,000 VND ($347) in the Vietnamese market. Those in the country can preorder the handset starting Monday, December 16, with shipments expected to begin after Christmas, on December 27. Samsung is throwing in a pair of Bluetooth earphones and a 10,000mAh battery pack with the preordered units. There is no detail on when we can expect the A51 to hit other markets.

From A11 to A71: this is Samsung’s 2020 Galaxy A range for South Africa

Along with the availability and price details for the Note 10 Lite, Samsung on Thursday announced its refreshed Galaxy A line-up for South Africa — arguably its most important line.

Five new devices will be heading to the country during 2020 from February through to July ranging in price from R2999 to R8999.

Two phones are currently available, while three haven’t yet been conceived. Nevertheless, we look at each device in more detail below.

Samsung Galaxy A11

Available from July 2020, the phone will feature a 6.4-inch display with a punch hole selfie camera in the screen’s corner.

It’ll feature a physical fingerprint scanner at the rear and a triple rear camera headlined by a 13MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth camera.

It’ll boast a 4000mAh battery with 15W fast charging support, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage.
As for the retail price, that number’s a respectable R2999.

Samsung Galaxy A21

Hitting South Africa a month earlier, the Galaxy A21 also features a triple rear camera but packs a 48MP sensor and 2MP depth sensor. There’s also an 8MP ultrawide.
This device will feature a 5000mAh battery, 15W fast charging, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage too.
Up front, there’s a central selfie camera cut out of the 6.5-inch display. Flipping it over, you’ll find a rear fingerprint sensor.

As for price, you’re looking at R3499.

Samsung Galaxy A31

We’ve mentioned the Galaxy A31 earlier this week, and Samsung today confirmed its existence. But it’ll only be available from May for R5499.

It sports a 6.4-inch display which strangely enough still features an Infinity-U display — the design you’ll find on last year’s Galaxy A devices.

The premium gets you a fingerprint reader beneath the screen, a 48MP primary camera, a 5MP depth sensor and an ultrawide lens with an 8MP sensor behind it. Oh, and there’s a fourth camera too: a 5MP macro snapper.
It also packs a 5000mAh battery wih 15W fast charging support, a 4GB wad of RAM and a 128GB storage bank.
This device seems to be the most balanced of the range.

Samsung Galaxy A51 and A71

We’ve detailed the A51 and A71 here if you need more concrete specs, but as for price and availability:
  • The Galaxy A51 will be priced at R6999 and is already available.
  • The Galaxy A71 is priced at R8999 and will be available from February.

Hi everyone.

Any updates on the A51? How is the device doing?

I am considering buying one and would like some advice on whether or not it will be a decent purchase.

I did a GSM Arena comparison and the Huawei P30 lite seems better. The spec and benchmarks suggest this but i'm not convinced.

You basically buy a Samsung midrange phone for : " awesome screen, awesome camera, long lasting battery life".

They don't typically use the fastest chipsets in midrange devices.

It depends what you want out of a phone.
If you're getting a phone on contract maybe wait for the next Huawei P series to be released. Hopefully the P30 will become cheaper on contracts.

I have the Samsung A30 2019 & it received Android 10 today. Samsung has been good with updates so far.

The A series devices are good but I would be tempted to look at a previous gen flagship i.e Huawei P30.

The only real downgrade for me was the chipset. The soc on the A30 can only do basic gaming.

Anything from A50/A51 up will be fast enough for daily use and gaming.

Yeah as I stated the chipset is slow for gaming as compared to the Huawei but all round good daily driver handset.

Samsung Galaxy A11 quietly gets official with entry-level specs, punch-hole display

Today Samsung has listed a new phone on its official press website, the Galaxy A11, which has been in the leak cycle a few times lately. Oddly enough, there still isn't an accompanying press release, and the spec list that is available so far is anything but complete, although we do get a bunch of official press renders to glance at.

The Galaxy A11 will, as its name implies, be Samsung's new entry-level model in its mid-range A family of smartphones. It comes with a 6.4-inch 720x1560 LCD touchscreen with a punch-hole selfie camera in the top left (that's an 8 MP unit with f/2.0 aperture).

I am very impressed with the A series, however a large amount of them seem to have charging issues.
I get a few A31 and A51 models in a week for charging issues. It is a easy fix (sub assy problem) but it is still a hassle when a new phone suddenly is not charging.

Just bare that in mind.

That being said, the S8 and S9 had a identical issue, so it seems it is something Samsung struggles with in general.

does any one on vodacom that has the A51 can confirm that it works on VOLTE and VOWIFI
we have 2 of theses,
one on mtn and one on vodacom
MTN volte option active and works (wifi calling option active but MTN doesn't support it as yet - i gave up on asking they will get to it when they get to it)
Vodacom wifi calling option is active but doesn't work and no option for VOLTE, we did call vodacom to confirm the service is active on their side - the number in question worked on the old phone both volte and vowifi but unfortunately was stolen so had to do a sim swap
so I am assuming vodacom needs to do something on their side?

Not sure if you came right or not. Volte and VoWiFi works fine on my A51 (Vodacom)
