Hi guys. I'm posting this on behalf of my dad and I could really use some advice on how to help him. I know absolutely nothing about these devices.

Ok here's the scenario. My ballie had a contract with Vodacom but it recently ended, about 3 months ago. He has some kind of agreement with Vodacom now that at the beginning of every month his airtime get's renewed.

However within a matter of days, all the airtime is gone and he only browses email and regular news sites and the occasional Youtube video.

So he went and checked out a usage meter on the iPad, everything was very low except something called Tracker, he said the meter showed Tracker was right across the usage chart.

He asked me to ask you guys firstly if there's any way he can disable the WIFI (not sure if that's the solution) or if this tracker is causing the problem. Something, perhaps some app, is using up vast amounts of data.

Any suggestions?

Just an idea but when my airtime was disappearing fast i was advised to buy a data bundle, otherwise browsing is charged at R2 per mb. Maybe load some data.

Airtime is for calls data is for, well ........ data :-)

Thanks maumau. I think my dad's being screwed over some how I just can't figure out how. So is it better on a data bundle?

He really uses less data than anyone I know, mostly googles circuit diagrams and electronics stuff; can't be considered a heavy user by any standards. It's basically a work iPad.

Switch to telkom mobile

You can get the 2 plus 1gb telkom mobile for 149, and if you recharge with 100 voucher first you get 10gb free wifi. They have a nice app on the Istore for tracking your data.

However check what is being backed up to the iCloud. iCloud backups is usually via wifi, but it can back up pictures, and if your picture library is 4gb well guess who will be out of data.

Turning off wifi will make no difference. You will only share if your personal hotspot is turned on.

Also high res diagrams uses data like you won't believe, especially cad drawings.

Samsung Galaxy iPad Tab 2? Sounds interesting... So is it an iPad or a Galaxy Tab?

maybe Apple and Samsung merged ?

Or Samsung have decided to just be honest that they ripped off the iPad :D
