Hi there

I recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy Nexus from Amazon.co.uk - yakjuxw variant.
As i got my Andy it was running and is still now running Android 4.1.1

Now when i go to settings - about phone - system updates it just keeps telling me "system is up to date" .
It just won't update to the new firmware.:wtf:

So i contacted Samsung and they say it is a bug and i should hard reset my Andy :(

What do you suggest, hard reset? or is their another way, rooting excluded.

Or do you suggest rooting, will my Andy remain on 4.1.1 forever unless i root and use a custom rom?

I really don't know.
Those are Sammy variants and they handle the firmware.
Just backup all of your data on a PC and then do a factory reset - it just wipes your apps and data.
Perhaps then it should get through to you.

I have the Galaxy Nexus too - currently running 4.2.1 via OTA update (it's a takju)

Personally .. I'd say stick to 4.1 for now 4.2 and 4.2.1 has some issues

First the issues:
No december for persons in 4.2
4.2 and 4.2.1 are exhibiting the following:
Bluetooth is borked - doesn't want to stay connected to anything
Phone randomly powers up the screen (almost as if you got an sms or email) but it is a bug in the auto screen brightness
People are claiming Project Butter (smoothness) is a little stuffed - I haven't personally seen that - but I do know some games now "stick" for a split second here and there.

Now to update:
Most reliable why I have found ..
Go to Settings - Apps - All Apps - Google Framework Services (this is the app)
Click on Clear Data - Click on Force Stop
Go to Settings - Phone - and check for updates. It should say "Last Checked 01/01/1970"
Hit "Check for updates"
It is not a guaranteed way to do it - but I find it helps hurry the process along.
Note no official rooting is out for 4.2.1 yet (least not the kit I use).

So yeah .. there you have it .. if you really want the new super panoramic camera mode and a few new widget based lock screens and don't use bluetooth or know people who are born in december - go for it; otherwise perhaps wait for 4.2.next

Oki noted you are running yakjuwx ...
Yikes - means you don't get the newest Google toys .. :(

or

to switch between the two .. but just insert huge disclaimer here .. can't speak to any of those methods - though I do think xda forum is great.

"or know people who are born in december" lol, thanks Digilus, Shake&Bake this info really helps.
Think i will stick to 4.1.1 for now, maybe get an LG Nexus later and root my Samsung Nexus when i do so.
4.1.1 is really perfect on it's own, i always obsess about having my Andy on the latest firmware argh you know how it is, you want it and want it now, 4.2 really has minor updates, i can wait...
@Digilus i tried "Go to Settings - Apps - All Apps - Google Framework Services (this is the app)
Click on Clear Data - Click on Force Stop
Go to Settings - Phone - and check for updates. It should say "Last Checked 01/01/1970"
Hit "Check for updates""
but alas, it did not work, thanks anyway.
@Shake&Bake , thanks for that, will let you know if the hard reset worked once i do it.

What version are you guys running on your Samsung Galaxy Nexus atm?
The December and Bluetooth bugs fixed yet?

Also upgraded to 4.2.2. Stock Google ROM.

Smooth sailing now :)

Figuring out how to root and flash a new rom onto the phone was way more stressful than I imagined it would be.
Managed to softbrick my phone on first flash when my Xylon ROM flash looped at its annoying Animations Are For Noobs boot screen.
Thought my phone was a goner, TWRP couldn't help me as my backups were on the computer, couldn't push backup image onto the phone as my computer didn't recognise the phone and the phone doesn't have a SD card...
Thank god for all the great tutorials on the net explaining how to install unsigned drivers and get the phone back to stock ROM with WugFresh's Nexus Root Toolkit - great tool, link: http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
Upgraded two more GNexus phones to 4.2.2. yesterday. With making all kinds of backups it took me about 20 minutes per phone.
