Hi Guys,

I have a Samsung galaxy pocket S5300 and I really suffering a long time with this phone now,
I left it unrooted and it keeps on showing the vodacom logo on startup, wont save my live wallpaper, periodically freezes, and sometimes taps don't register for a while (great starter android phone, and cant afford a s4 mini at the moment)

anyway as its warrantee is about to expire I thought Id root it finally, to free up its ram that's running apps I never use and cant kill. yahoo finance anybody?

just want to get some ideas on what I should go for, ROMS, and firmware wise

also wanted to know if its possible to convert this phone to the -PLUS spec model (S5301)
what would I need software wise to download?, anybody here flashed/ converted / rooted this phone before?

Ive done similar things before on my old Sony ericsson z550:love: but never on an android phone before, read some of the explanations on XDA developers so have a general idea on what I need to do.

Most of the information you need can be found here.

I would recommend you do backup your data, then enable 'usb debugging' under settings/applications/development.

Then root device as per instructions provided in the link above.

Install 'Root App Delete' - free from Play Store.

Now you can experiment with deleting the apps you do not need, just be careful not to delete any essential system apps.

If you want to try a new rom, first try a stock, unbranded rom from SamMobile & flash with Samsung KIES .

Unfortunately you can not convert S5300 to S5301 - the system partition sizes are different...

Thanks oldhat

one more question, does the rooting process allow me to remove the vodacom boot-up logo?
( I use MTN so its annoying)

I saw a few you-tube vids that show a different start up screen one with Samsung logo on it.
or would I need to load a different ROM to be able to do that?

After rooting you can change the boot animation, but it would actually be easier to flash an unbranded rom.
