I have an S2 since October last year (almost a year). When my battery is on half (usually by midday), it suddenly drops to empty.

This is based on the assumption that the phone has had a full charge the previous night. I have data activated during the daytime and on a few occasions use my phone as a wi-fi hotspot due to the lack of internet where i work.

Can anyone advise the cause of this?
Should I replace my battery?

I am aware that the S2's are quite thirsty on battery and somehow have gotten used to it.

Getting to midday on half sounds right if you've been using it a fair bit. But dropping suddenly to empty is very suspect. I imagine you're still under warranty so get take it in and get a new one before October.

I easily got a full day out of my S2 and was usually on 60-70% at lunchtime with average use.

I had this problem when I was overseas, if I remember, I had to let the battery drain fully, then take it out for a few minutes, then put it back in the phone.

Also just try taking out your battery for a few minutes and putting it back in, sometimes the S2 thinks it has a certain amount of battery but it actually has half that amount.

You will see sometimes it says full, then you take the battery out and then it says 50% when you put it back in.

I ending up flashing my phone again as I was also having some other battery issues and ICS 4.0.3

Sounds like the fuel gauge chip is acting up. The above suggestion will work but you can also install the Siyah kernel and a programme called EXTweaks. EXTweaks has an option to reset the fuel gauge chip. That will solve it.

I would agree with this, but if you are going to take it for warranty repairs, rather don't root it.
