Hi, hope there's indeed some hope for me here....

I inherited my mom's old Galaxy S2 phone and have had endless problems since.

Firstly I bought a new battery as the old 1 would only hold charge for about an hour then flat.

Took it to Samsung who plainly said they can't repair the phone after checking it out.

I updated the software still wouldn't hold charge for more than an hour.

Disabled all unneccessary apps / background stuff etc.

Bought a another battery just in case the old 1 was a dud and this one only lasted 2 hours.

As of yesterday the phone died completely, wouldn't even charge / startup!

I'm at the end of my rope here, is there any hope for me or should I trash it and go back to my old iPhone

sorry if this has already popped up, couldn't find it in this forum.

Did you make sure the software update completed correctly?
Sounds like a software issue to me, if still an issue, i would say hardware then toss it..

You bought to 2 new batteries? Waste of money, I'd say. Toss the phone and sell the batteries.

I have an LG Optimus Black P970 for sale for R950 if you're interested.

Could be a dud with a faulty board or your mum dropped it a few times that caused damage. A hand me down phone comes with hand me down problems.

Did you factory reset it? Edit: Nvm it doesn't even start...

Take out the battery, connect it to PC with USB cable, does it display anything on the screen after a minute? Or install drivers on the pc?

Software updated correctly because I used the phone for 2 weeks afterwards with no issues related to OS.

Plugged it into USB port doesn't start up so I can't factory reset :-(

Apparently my mom had the same issues when she initially bought the phone, chucked it in the draw and that's how I stumbled across it a year later.

Nope, sounds hard-bricked,probably a power issue on the board

I think you should have taken the hint from Samsung when they told you they cannot fix the phone.

actually this sounds like the issue a guy in the office had wiht his s4, after he dropped it, it would not hold charge. samsung replaced the micro usb port and everything was fixed.

sounds like the connection between the point where you charge it and the board is faulty. if samsung says they cant repair it take it to a repair center not linked to a network or handset, just find one that is not dodgy.

Before you give up all hope, root and try a rom of XDA. I had a similar problem and it worked for me
