Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE

I went through to the Vodacom Shop in Vodacom World yesterday and picked up the new Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE on my contract upgrade :D They only have the LTE model in the new Titanium Grey - Really happy that I waited for this model and colour :D
 
@Snowman .... can you please tell me if it has a radio ... and if not ... then I would be interested to know about using internet radio and what sort of data that eats up(if any1 has that kind of info)

Erm, after playing around with it, I don't think it does, I haven't seen a "Radio" app or icon. I just checked on a friend's S3 (i9300) and he has a "FM Radio" app/icon, which he says came stock with his model, which I don't have. So based on that, I will assume it doesn't have a radio.

Since I've come from an iPhone 4 (which also doesn't have a built in radio), it's not something that I'm expecting to miss. When I used my iPhone, I just downloaded a radio app which could catch all the local and international radio stations but used data, unfortunately I never monitored it's data usage so I can't say whether or not it used a lot of data.

There's a few informative posts on Vodafone that go into some detail, but I think it depends on the quality of the stream e.g. 32kbps, 64kbps, 96kbps etc. the higher the bitrate the higher the data usage.

This is a pretty good post. And here's what Vodacom post on their site about internet radio data use.

I don't really use it myself so don't have first-hand knowledge.
 
Samsung S3 LTE vs. Samsung S4 vs. HTC One X+

I've been pretty confused about what to go for.. S3 LTE, HTC One X+ or just hold out for the S4 mid-next year. I think this thread has helped me make up my mind! Snowman.. what's your verdict? I know you've only had it a very short while, but would still like to know!

Techradar placed the S3 as top mobile phone in the world (dated 9 November 2012), HTC One X+ in second place, iPhone 5 in third place, and Nexus 4 in fourth place..

Edit: XDA post saying i9300 may be better option if you're into your roms and tweaks..

Edit 2: Not so confused anymore, at least, not between Samsung and HTC.. it's def gonna be Samsung.. I just hope the dev community take to this handset so we can expect some custom roms on XDA.. Samsung seem to have finally learnt a valuable lesson and have released their JB source code for i9305.. :D

Snow_Man what are the size options on launch.. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB? And is the LTE the same quad-core 1.5 cpu?

Edit: don't worry here, I believe it's launched with 32GB.. not sure if the 64GB option is available in SA yet..

So I've had the phone for just over a week now and I am really enjoying it, from the customisation to the intuitiveness, things like the option to load different launchers and/or themes, change icons, use widgets, etc. to things like Smart Stay, Swype, the built in battery and data monitoring apps, ease of transferring data from PC to the phone and vice versa (I came from an iPhone 4). The phone is also lightning fast and as smooth as anything, there isn't any delay or lag on anything the device does.

I was a bit worried about the battery life of the phone before I got it because its the LTE model, which did start out a bit shaky for the first few days, but now that I have done a few full battery cycles (running it completely flat and then charging it to 100%) the battery life is actually quiet impressive relative to my iPhone 4, its large screen, quad core and 2 GB of RAM.

I was also in the same boat as you, considering whether to get the Galaxy S3, HTC One X and the iPhone 5, but the reasoning I went for the S3 was because of the better battery life (compared to the One X, which has been addressed in the One X+ with its lager battery), the bigger screen (compared to the iPhone 5) and I wanted a change from iOS and the Apple environment.

All in all I can say that I'm pretty I'm pretty impressed with the S3 LTE and I am completely happy and satisfied with my choice (so far). That have been said, I was not unhappy with my iPhone by any means I just wanted a change up from iOS and something different. At the end of the day I don't think you will be disappointed with any of the phones you decide on choosing.

My model (I9305) is the 16GB model, they told me it was the only model available at the time. The CPU is the 1.4 GHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A9, which is the same as the i9300, the Americas and Japan get the 1.5 dual core models. This model also has 2 GB RAM compared to the 1 GB on the I9300.
 
Anyone seen any outlets selling the 9305 without contract?

Or anyone wanting to sell? PM me. Thanks
