Samsung Galaxy S6 prices questioned

“I will eventually get a Samsung S6 or the future Note or performance equivalent Android phone. However, now I am more wary of contracts and will thus look at a cash option, so will most likely wait for prices to come down,” Musso said.

The sad thing is that prices most likely won't come down, unless you go 2nd-hand.

I also thought R16k for a phone was ridiculous.

Guys have to start looking at Huawei and the other taiwan and chinese brands. They come in with high specs, less bloatware and at a competitive price.

They say their prices are high because of this: "include local after sales support, a two-year warranty, a free wireless charger and cover (worth R1 100), and one screen replacement" but they say it's "free of charge".

So if it is "free of charge", why do they make the price higher????? It's "FREE" after all.

And that's why my next phone will be the Huawei Ascend Mate7, yes it has it's quirky bits but one can work around them.

Weird... iPhones have always been ridiculously expensive, but that never raised any eyebrows. I wonder why....

Market a new product, set high expectations, jack the price up and have a nice, fat bonus?

Sounds about right.

Hence why I'll be happy with a new "older" phone. So instead of going for the S4 or S5 mini, I went for the S3 mini. Fits my pocket and wallet.

Don't see why I have to bust my gut and pay top $$$ just to have the latest and newest... but that's just me.

Should have gone with the S2... its better than the S3 mini. :D

It is because iPhones are a premium product and don't engage in price wars. We have been through this argument before.

After working with the S6 Edge I have to change my whole opinion about this device. If people will pay that premium price for a iPhone 6/6 Plus then the price tag of the S6 Edge is definately not that high. The S6 Edge is a much more Premium quality phone than the iPhone 6/6 Plus.

Totally worth it.

Maybe my understanding of premium in this context is limited. Don't all flagship devices represent the various manufacturers' premium product, as opposed to their other mid-range products? For instance, Samsung's Galaxy S & Note series would be their premium devices rather than the A or Mini's?

As for Apple not engaging in price wars, please help me understsnd that point. Do you mean Apple has no direct competition that they'd get into a price war with because they're the only company that produces iOS products?

I'm with you on that front. I'v come to realise that having a the latest new shiny toy isn't all its cracked up to be. I bought a windows phone for R500 and I'm happy with it as it does all I want. Make calls, sms, whatsapp and has all social media accounts.

I don't need more than that IMO. IF I want games, I'll use my console or tablet.

I really like the look of the S6 Edge, but those prices are crazy .... will just live without it and stick with my S4 for a while longer

No, your understanding is correct. But that's because you probably aren't a crazed Apple fanboi. To them "premium" is a buzzword they throw around without even knowing WTF it means and they refuse to define it. In their minds it's a good substitute for an actual argument. My typical "discussion" with these people on a forum goes something like:

Why is this phone so expensive when it's a lot less powerful than the competition and runs a proprietary OS that you can't do much with?

Because it's just like so premium, OMG duh.

Um... Ok, so what does that mean exactly, does it mean it's better? What makes it better?

It's just premiumzer than the rest. Everyone knows you just can't beat Apple

Uh... right... So tell me, why would you buy it?

Because premium.

Dude, that makes no sense... You still haven't told me what's better about it. Sounds like you're just a fanboi for no reason.

PREMIUMZ!!!! You're just being mean and a bigot and it's getting old!!!:cry::cry:
