I need some help - Just got my Galaxy Tab p7500 thru vodacom's latest special (499 phone plus tab) the tablet comes "sim free" so you can go for a pre paid option.
I have an 8ta internet 5 (10gig) contract sim but my galaxy tab won't recognise the sim! Keeps saying 'please insert sim'
Does anyone know if these tablets are networked locked?

If they are how could it be unlocked?
Dont really want to be handing more bucks out for a meagre 500mbs on prepaid if I got 10gigs. Begging to be used!

Any advice welcomed!
Shot...

logic. patience and insist on customer support

Bru, I suggest you:
1. Read everything you possibly have to look for the fine print and clauses.
2. Google the device's information. My first venture into tablets Saturday got me wanting the Galaxy and found the matter of the "Newton rings" issue with it - so IF (big if yes) you experience this, then what you deal with now can have your foot in the door IF it happens. Again, google it.
3. Go straight to the highest senior 'sense' maker there. Don't let sales tell you something about the technical things, unless it can be proven. Vice versa. Someone can tell you lies just because they don't feel like helping you solve this.
4. Thus far every provider can supply a Galaxy, so it can be locked on request, so it can be unlocked. The Consumer Protection thingy is on your side. The Ombutsman as well. If you stated your intention when you were there and bought, then you are set to get your way.
5. Go back ASAP. The first clause you probably going to find is "10 day xxxxx back garuantee" or something.

I bought a Nokia N900 (never released by service providers). Its got a NAND memory chip and I re-flashed it more than 7 times already. I bricked the device 3 times and merely started from scratch. If it was blocked, then I could have sorted that out, no sweat. Most people never want to get that technical, but in your case if no help is the way you going to end up, then google "Flashing the galaxy" or "unlocking the Galaxy". Mind you, I am going to google it myself. Its got Android, so it is closest to Opensource software/Operating systems, so if not now, give it some time and you will get by. The only show-stopper will be if the Galaxy has got a ROM chip (Red Only Memory), coz then you are stuck with it. Get someone who buys one from 8ta and wants one from Vodacom - swap it.

Hope it helps a bit.

....thanks I will probe the depths of Vodacoms client service with Zen like patience.....
I will also try and flash the tab......once I figure out the best route....

And would you believe turning it off and on with the sim card in solved the problem.....
