Samsung Innov8 upgrade

I have two contracts - one with MTN and one with Vodacom. Last year I upgraded to the Omnia on MTN and I am, to date, very happy with the phone. Now that I am used to it, I absolutely love it.

For my upgrade now, I thought I'd go for the double :) and get the Samsung Innov8. I read up as much as I could on the phone and saw that MTN's innov8 comes with Garmin GPS, for life, as did the Omnia. It is also the 16GB version. I called Vodacom to find out if their's has it too. The guy at the store could not tell me (but he did tell me their Omnia, etc came with the Garmin GPS for life). I then contacted Samsung directly and they told me that they load the phone with Garmin GPS and that it was not network dependant.

I was happy as I really love Garmin.

But to my dismay today (when I received the phone), I find out that Vodacom's comes with some stupid little program called Route 66. I don't even think it is voice assisted navigation. I mean, if Samsung loads it onto the phone (Garmin), does Vodacom actually go and remove it? What a bunch of crap! Should have cancelled my Vodacom contract and gone to MTN!!!

Has anyone else got the Innov8? What does yours come with?

Hey there, just thought I'd clear this up a little;

Garmin Mobile is a fantastic piece of software, detailed and once you get used to it, easy enough to use, but, in my experience with it, the software can be full of Crap!
It tends to select odd routes, gets mixed up in dense areas with many side streets, and will start recalculating a route even if you havent detoured from your current one!!
If your patient with it and baby the program a little it will usually get you to where your going pretty quickly.

My wife on the other hand has a 6110 navigator which comes preloaded with Route 66.
It's a little basic, kinda like nokia maps 1.5, but it has all the important features you may need.
The real bonus here though is the navigation ability of the software, its quick, accurate and has never taken an odd or unconventional route to a place.
There is voice nav, and in my opinion its far superior to garmin's voice nav.
The phone will tell you which lane to go into, remind you which direction to take, tell you what type of offramp/turnoff to expect and in general, give you such excellent voice guidance that when i use it, i hardly ever actually look at the screen.

So, before you knock route 66, give it a try, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised!
 
I had a 6110 Nav and used its gps A LOT. Route 66 is a brilliant piece of software.

I Second that notion. I Prefer the navigation of Route 66 to Garmin.

The voices are also MUCH nicer on Route 66!
 
Thanks guys! I will give it a go. I guess I was just dissapointed to see Garmin not being there, especially after speaking to samsung where they told me it is loaded before being sent to the service providers.

But, I absolutely love the phone. One weekend is enough to convince me this is the best phone on the market!!! So I guess I'll just have to get used to it.

The accessories is absolutely great. Even better then the Omnia, and I thought that was a huge pack!

Is the voice navigation for life with Route 66?
 
Guys, you sound as if you have travelled this route. Route 66 (mobile8) is loaded on my Innov8 (Vodacom ) but I can't find a license key to unlock the program! Please help. Vodacom customer service plays dumb, Samsung as well.
