=

Not impressed so far. Software keeps hanging, and when trying to update, it locks up solid

Anybody got good news? Or must I use other software?

Just use Kies air, basically turns your device into a wireless ftp server.

Tried Kies Air.

It does not work lekker

On the plus side, I've downloaded the latest Kies software, and it works better than the previous version.

I have seen there's other wireless ftp programs (a la Kies Air) in the app store, gotta try them.

I've never had any luck with Kies, even with updating to newer versions :(

... is it safe to come back????

I have a I9100 (Samsung Galaxy S2) and found that Kies is really stubborn at the best of times. It is nice for backing up stuff, but even so, since I rooted and purchased Titanium Backup, I have not used Kies in any way.

Odin is a simple yet powerfull PC software application with which I flash new firmware (any firmware I choose for my handset), modified kernels (for rooting, speed, etc). It is very simple to use but if you do not know what you are doing, then you can create problems.

So if you should decide to use Odin, then be sure to read up on instructions for your handset (if your handset is supported).

I can link you to the XDA thread for firmwares and instructions to use Odin to install firmware or modified kernels, etc, BUT this link is for the I9100 only. Search and read up for your handset model!!

Quick disclaimer: I do not take any responsibility for damage to any handset in any way whatsoever.

And ... it is not as scary as you might think or my "disclaimer" indicates. I also knew nothing about Odin when I started, but now its as easy as taking a dump ...

Although there are newer versions out, I am still using V 1.85

EDIT: I also have Mobile Odin installed on my handset with which I can update firmwares, modems, kernels, etc. But your handset must be rooted (I think)

Thanks for the post and thanks for the "lol" :D

I need to use kies air, as I run a linux box and just plugging my tablet in causes issues cause of ntp.

Another option is to set your phone to present itself as a mass storage device by going settings, wireless and network, usb settings, and selecting which one of the three options you want.

Don't have that option on my tablet :( works on my wifes tablet and her galaxy y though

I often have to select "Resolve issues" or something like that on Kies and then select to re-install the drivers - that usually works but takes time. :(

There's also other wifi drivers available in the store. Try them all and use the o ne which works for you.

Also have issues with Kies Air - sometimes it works, sometimes not....

Maybe I did not phrase it right, I was talking about Kies for PC, so the drivers that get re-installed as part of their resolve issues wizard is the PC USB drivers.
