Hey guys,

I am looking at getting myself the LA40D550, and would like to hear from you guys regarding its media playback capabilities.

I am going to mainly be using it for playing video files stored on my NAS (FreeNAS). In terms of media, it is a mix of HD MKV files (both 720p and 1080p) and some avi files. Will this TV be able to access and play the files (dont have cash right now for a dedicated PC running the thing). I have all the ethernet wiring ready, so there will not be any issues with networking.

Thanks for the advice.

BTW, any comments about picture quality are welcome as well.

not really that worried about the avi's as it is the normal divx/xvid type stuff... nothing fancy... plus all my latest downloads are all mkv, so that is obviously more important...

I recently have one of these hooked up to my PC and PS3. Only regret is not getting the 46".

haha, nice glad to hear... wish i could get a 46", but the budget is already being stretched by the 40", so it will have to do for now...

I've got the 46" and so far it's played everything thrown at it.

ok well looks like it is settled then... now I just gotta figure out how to install a UPnP server on FreeNAS (besides buying the TV ofcourse)...

I wish I had put more effort in to learning *Nix... :/

Nix has improved over the years, it's not as it was.

no arguments, but thing is that UPnP is no longer included in FreeNAS 8 as standard, and I will need to figure out how to install it manually... but hey, nothing that the all mighty google cant help with...
