Samsung LCD TV displaying blacks as red...

I have a 42" LCD that on the odd occasion displays the blacks as reds. What's going on here? It's not the source because it happens from multiple sources.

I don't know how else to explain it other than to say that blacks are displayed as reds...

It's difficult to test as it happens randomly. Could it be the AV receiver? Again, this is difficult to test as everything is setup in such a way that bypassing the AV receiver is a rather painful exercise...

Yes, which is how I isolated it to either the tv or the receiver. It's intermittent though. Disappears for weeks on end then one day it'll return for the day. I've also noticed a lot of ghosting on the tv recently...

sounds like you will need to test without the receiver first, though the last time I had the black go red on one of my LCD monitors the panel itself was actually toast, it wasn't intermittent though, one day it was fine the next day turned it on and it looked like a CGA monitor from the early 80s.

Now to wait for it to return and test it out. It's not a common occurrence so I guess it's a waiting game now. Perhaps best to start looking for its replacement in the meanwhile...

You have got a power supply problem, and/or the voltage regulator to that part of the circuit is failing. I saw a LCD panel (not a Samsung) where there was no physical connection between one voltage regulator tab and the chassis. Replacing this an inserting a mica washer between the two surfaces fixed it. Getting it out was a mission as two closely spaced boards had to come out

I'd say yes, but it still might be something in the receiver causing the issue. Is there no way of testing a source bypassing the receiver.

Yes, I can, but I'll have to wait for the problem to return before I can test it out. It's currently working fine. Even the ghosting has disappeared for the time being...

I doubt it's the receiver. It doesn't do anything more but pass the signal through to the TV. Pass-through, it's called I believe. Start looking for a new TV. The problem will eventually get worse as time goes on.

Happened to mine just before it went.... but only on one half of the screen.
