I have heard in another thread that Samsung and LG are offering 3 year warrentees on all their LCD & plasma TVs sold before December 2009. Is there anyone who could confirm this? Or where could I find out more about this offer?

I bought my Samsung SLC 2 days ago from Cats Digital and they didn't know about it either :/

Also had to contact them to find out

I contacted Game last week with regards to the warranty on the 40" Sony LCD. They didn't know anything about the Sony 3 year that Makro had/has, but the Salesman (Morne) was kind enough to call me back the next day to confirm that their sony's would carry the 3 year guarantee/warranty too. Game, Grand Central branch, CPT.

If you had to buy an extended warrenty on a Samsung TV with a 1 year warrenty, would it buy you 2 years more or 3 years? Now I'm thinking whether to buy my TV before 2010 or not with this standard 3 year warrenty deal now.

I think you can choose. It was 2000 for two years and 2500 for 3 years but the total cannot be greater than 5 so could not opt for 3 + 3. Had to go for 3 + 2.

Do you know whether you can buy the extended warrenty directly from Samsung or do you have to buy it via the retail outlet where you bought the TV?

Just to be clear as it may seem confusing. The 3 year warranty thing from Sony, Samsung and LG are actually the manufacturers warranty. You should automatically get a 3 year warranty from Samsung no matter where you buy the TV from. To get an additional 2 years over and above that (to make it 5 years) you will have to buy an Extended warranty from a specific store.

The stores I know that offer it are:

Game (Do not stock B650)
Dionwired (Special Order for TV @ R24K + Additional warranty @ 2.5K)
Kay Makan (Special Order for TV @ 21.5K + Additional warranty @ 4K)
Hirschs (Special Order for TV @ 21.5K + Additional warranty @ 2K)

Do you know whether you can buy the extended warrenty directly from Samsung or do you have to buy it via the retail outlet where you bought the TV?

I replied to you on the LG 50 inch plasma thread about the tv. Did you see it? ;)

flip I bought an additional 2 years from Hirschs

If you bought the TV after 24 september you should perhaps tell them to change the inception date of the extended warranty to 2012 and change the code on their system. It won't cost them or you anything and should it be quite easy for them to do.

Its worth a try, I would think :)
