Hi guys

Does MTN have a online direct store like vodacom direct? i saw the Omnia in the Sunday papers being advertised about a week ago.

Does anyone know whats the cheapest contract that can be taken out and still get the handset for free?

Best deal is R500 pm on MTNAnytime 500 - includes R500's airtime and no pay in on the phone.

I was patiently holding out for the iPhone hoping it wouldn't be hugely over-priced (as I guess was expected).

And having been a loyal Vodacom subscriber for a number of years, I signed up with MTN today. Got an Anytime 200 contract with a Samsung Omnia - R319 pm and no pay in.
 
Exactly the package I'm also going for - goodbuy Vodacom... And at least MTN has 3G/HSDPA near my house...

Anybody know when MTN is going to switch on their 7.2 Mbps HSDPA? Or have they already?

I too waited for the iPhone - the worst launch of any country! The packages are a rip off. 250MB of data. You can chew that in a couple of hours playing on youtube. There will be uproar when the first bills come in. I checked out the Omnia and after being messed about by Vodacom found the MTN offer. The 500 is excellent value but as I don't make many voice calls I will go for the 200 package. This is also a real deal. You basically get the phone on an interest free 24 month HP deal and R4800 airtime for free.

got the iphone and will get the omnia too, when my contract is totally over with vodacom ...
 
Wow, I see many people going over from Vodacom to MTN, me included because of the Omnia. I don't like the iPhone and that is the only option on Vodacom now. They are losing this round. (With Vodacom from 1999)

It is not only for the Omnia that people are moving, MTN seem to be killing Vodacom with most phones. An example is the N82 I am looking at, the SPs both have a special offer on :

MTN offer :
  • Anytime 200 for R239 per month
  • Anytime200 has R200 free value every month (data, airtime, smses - any usage) plus 25 free smses
  • Peak calls any network R2.30 per minute

Vodacom offer:
  • Business Call for R249 per month
  • Business call has no free minutes or smses.
  • Peak calls across networks R2.30 per minute

They are kicking butt with these new packages and Vodacom has still not released a challenge. In fact a question to v3g, although perhaps not his area directly, still remains unanswered. I too am currently with Vodacom but I follow the deals. No loyalty given as we consumers do not get rewarded for it anyway!

Why would you take the 350 contract and then pay R449 when you can get the 500 contract for just R51 extra? Sound like a silly move to take the anytime 350 contract...

I haven't had a problem with the Omnia under sunlight, must be the brightness setting or something wrong with the device ;)
