Hey guys, I'm shopping around for a 24" monitor. I don't game as much as I used to, so I'll be using the screen for programming (lots of programming), movies and gaming.

I see the Samsung S24A350HS is selling on Prophecy for R2373.71 (Samsung S24A350HS). This is a pretty decent price for (what looks to be) a rather solid 24" monitor. The general price for 24" LED monitors is pretty steep these days.

Does anyone here own this monitor, or recommend it based on first-hand experience? On that note - does anyone know of a reliable source of monitor reviews? Shopping sites with 20 "omg best ever awesome color" "reviews" don't really help :)

Pitty you don't have Pczone there by you, they are selling a Philips MNPH234EL258 23 LED with a 3 year warranty for R1499, even if you courier it, should still be worth it. I don't have first hand experience on the monitor you are looking at but it seems pretty solid specs wise.

How about a 16:10 1920x1200 then?

1920x1200 IPS screens are so worth it if you're going to tilt your screen 90' for programming!

My one colleague is now running 4 screens (in portrait mode) off his machine (2x from onboard HDMI+DVI and the other 2x off his GTS250).

The difference between 23" and 24" is indeed small, but personally, I notice it :)

ITCynic, glad you like it. That's +1 in favour then. I'm not sure how much to trust manufacturer supplied specs though. I mean they're obviously a guide but the subjective nature of image quality means they are easier to manipulate.

I'm not sure about 1920x1200. Right now I have a 21" 16:9 monitor and while it does feel "narrow" height-wise, the extra inches should bring the height up to respectable size on a larger 16:9 monitor. And right now I don't really mind the aspect ratio at all, as long as I can have 2 vertical columns within vim.

Pada that setup sounds really tasty but sadly I'll have to wait for solid income before I can even consider that :(
