Samsung S3 charge time - 24 hours

I've had my S3 almost 6 months - so the problem isn't a consistent issue as it's happened twice - but I can't work out why! Also wondering if it effects others occasionally?

About 3 weeks ago I plugged it into charge at 21:00 and went about my business, went to bed and woke up at 6:30 ... to find it only 70% done. The guy at work said perhaps I should have rebooted incase something was running etc.

Last night the phone dies totally and I plug in in at 22:00. I wake up at 01:00 and see it on 6% and reboot there and then. I wake up 15 minutes back and it's now on 49% ... so clearly this thing is hardly charging.

Happen to anyone else?

There's an issue where it recognises the charger with USB cable as just being USB from a PC or whatever. Try a hardwired charger like the S2 one. Impossible to find stock of them it seems but give smartlab a call. They have stock, not in a retail box but R50 cheaper than the shops.

Even then, it shouldn't charge so slowly.

I charge my S3 at work on PC USB- which shows up as such in battery monitor. That's .5A vs the .7-1A of a wall charger. It takes longer, but not 10x longer...

Have you taken battery out and (carefully) cleaned the contacts?

Have you rooted or loaded a custom rom? Maybe try that procedure to reset the Battery stats where you let it die completely, charge to full, clear battery stats (something along those lines)

It has been reported a few times in XDA forums. The advice was to try another charger (Blackberry for example), and take your battery out for 5 minutes and try again.

Such an expensive device but such cheap charger cables.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I believe in older phones that could have helped but today's batteries are self calibrating.

Nope. Definitely works. The calibration can go off so you're basically resetting it, like unplugging a cars ecu.
