I am not sure how to start a poll so a thread will have to do.

I am contemplating upgrading my os on my S4 i9500 to kit kat but wary due to some bad reports on this and other forums.

Therefore lets see by show of hands:

  • Who have had battery issues after the service provider upgrade (released a short while ago)?
  • Who are as happy as a pig in mud with their service provider upgrade (released a short while ago) and has better or same battery life than previous update?

Please stick to commenting personal experience with:
  • S4 i9500 and kit kat update only
  • Service provider released updates only

Hey - also read about note 3 issues with battery life after the update - updated my note 3 to kitkat no issues - maybe these people have insane amounts of apps and what not : ( )

Also same with Dad's s4 no issues at all ! :D

Battery has been a major improvement for me, phone is more stable, but also more sluggish (only slightly now).

CellC, Gt-9500 4.4.2

No issues. Battery life a bit longer actually.

Just note, batteries, over time, will have shorter lifetimes between charges. If you still have an issue with battery after upgrading, consider swapping out your battery for a new one

My battery life is shorter :( Used to hold 3 days now it only holds 2 days

I'm with MTN

Phone is much better now. Battery life is also better. I am on MTN.

But also note that I decided to wipe out everything and setup everything from scratch.

Wiped everything before or after the update?

When the update was installed at first, the battery life was terrible and the phone actually refused to charge (it just stayed on 0%). But after I restarted it twice, the battery life is actually much longer (lasts 1.5 days instead of 0.5 days - I'm a heavy user) and the software is much more stable.

Some notes:
-the camera now launches instantly (this has been a pet peeve of mine since I got the phone)
-battery life is longer
-memory management is better, so now some apps stay in the background longer without restarting when I use them again.
-I really like some of the GUI tweaks, like the title bar, slightly different font, and album picture on lock screen.
-some obscure apps are now available on Google Play (such as Google Camera).

So all in all, I think it is a very worthwhile upgrade.
