I charged my phone fully this morning and havent really used it since. Picked it up a few times for whatsapp and it felt warm and now it tells me the battery is flat. What on earth can be going on? :(

Hey jhbgirl

Out of the box, there are quite a few things that just simply drain the battery life of the S4. Here are a few tips:

1. Try not to sync Gmail and other e-mail accounts on your device. This takes a lot of battery.
2. Turn off extra features you will not be using, such as Air View, Multi Window, Air Gesture, Smart Stay and Smart Scroll.
3. Regulate your screen brightness. This amounts for almost 40% of my battery life.
4. Activate Power Saving Mode on your handset.

Download this app from the Play Store: Easy Battery Saver

The app regulates certain features of your device in order to save on battery power. You have a number of settings or features you can choose from.

Since installing this app on my S4 I now get between 3-5 days of battery life. (I used to get around 8 hours before).

Just to note, when playing games or being on Whatsapp for some time, I also feel my battery getting tremendously warm.

I hear you but it feels something has gone wrong somewhere. I haven't had any issues until today. I have none of the airview things enabled. I only have wifi and battery saver mode enabled. Why would it run hot all of a sudden. I haven't even installed anything new.

Thinking about buying a S4.....Read the thread..../changes mind and runs.

I had issues before with the phone heating up but all is sorted. What does the battery monitor in Settings show? Post a screenshot if possible.

Easy battery saver helps alot, havent had heating issues once i installed this app.

So many issues with the S4, the battery, the camera issues...pfttttt.

I've never had any overheating issues. I'm running MF5 on Omega and I slept with my battery at 8%, and woke up 6 hours later and it was still at 8%. And have sync and everything enabled. So there must be something wrong with your battery.

I get a full day of moderate usage with my S4 with a bit of gaming included. Google Services sometimes can eat a chunk out of the battery, but that does not happen frequently.

The heating up and battery drain was a once off glitch. Works fine now *touch wood*
