I currently have no device contacts but have synced all my previous phone's contacts to gmail and then gmail synced the contacts to my S4. These were all contacts with phone numbers. now I have set contacts to only show those from my gmail account and it does this perfectly when I view the list of contacts.

The problem is that when I search for a contact using the search box at the top of the contacts list, the results include email contacts from gmail which match the search string and then I end up with several results for the same peraon and I have to click into each result item to find the one with a phone number before I can call them.

I could move the telephone contacts to the device and disable the gmail contacts but I like the syncing which is happening with gmail.....

Any ideas? Does a free solution exist which would sync contacts on the device with either gmail or outlook contacts without needing a USB cable and kies?

So I changed the view on my phone to "device" only and synced all my contacts from outlook to the phone using kies.....

When I open contacts only my device contacts show, but if I do a search, then all results from device and gmail show leaving me with the same damn problem of figuring out which contact is the one with the phone number!!

ARGH!

Lol, i've had this issue since 2011 when got the S2.
The worse annoyance is when I create a new SMS through Messaging and click the icon to add a recipient, it lists every single contact on my Gmail contact list.

It would be so easy to fix - just link the search results to the "show contacts from" setting.....

This seems to be a very annoying touchwiz issue.

Never had this issue using an AOSP ROM.
