Hi All,

i have a samsung S4.
i am currently experiencing the following issue:

my phones screen randomly turns itself on.
i have disabled air view, smart stay, smart scroll, air gesture etc.

yet the phone still keeps turning the screen on.
i have also noted that when i am using the phone the screen sort of flashes and becomes unresponsive for a microsecond. almost like it refreshed itself.

i have done pulled the battery and killed all running apps yet this still is an issue

please if anyone can help i'd appreciate it!

the phone is Cell C stock, not sure if it might be hardware failing or an app or a glitch in the operating software.
i am running the lastest version of samsung andriod 4.2.2

Thanks

Do you have a screen protector on? Could be messing with the proximity sensor...

i do, but this is a new issue. i had the screen protector on since day one with no issues. its only recently this has started.
google shows a few other people having the same issue but no known fix...

i'm very tempted to do a factory reset and see if that fixes the issue...
just not so keen to have to re-setup my phone...

Did you download any apps before the problem?
Mine did the same and it was a movie player that caused it.

i did download a HD background app. but i uninstalled that shortly after as it was not user friendly...

ok so i did a full factory reset and restored from backup.
still no luck.

so now i am doing a full factory reset and not restoring from a backup.
will run the phone like this for a while to see if this helps.

if this doesnt help is this most likely a hardware failure of some kind?
if so does Cell C have a repairs department etc?

I'd go with a hardware issue. The other day my screen didn't even want to turn off at all! :D

I had to take out the battery to resolve the issue

what a nightmare...
technology, it makes our lives easier, but at the same time, it brings in its own headaches

if you are still having issues, just to completely eliminate it being a software bug why not give a custom ROM a try? there are pleny out there and it will come down to personal preference as to what to use.
