Samsung Smart TV slower wired connection vs wireless

Anyone have any idea why this might happen?

I'm running a 100mb fibre line and my Samsung TV (55MU7350) only has 2.4 Ghz wireless. With the distance from the router, this usually hovers at 20mb/s. I'd like more than that as Netflix requires a stable 25mb/s for 4k HDR content. So I ran an ethernet cable from the router to the tv and I get a whopping 1mb/s.

I never expected a wired connection to be so much slower than the wireless. Tested the same ethernet cable on my PC and laptop and I get the full 100mb/s connected to the same port on the router.

Could there be something wrong with the card in the TV? Or is the LAN card so poor? The only thing I can think of, provided something isn't wrong with the TV, is that those LAN connections are designed only to download firmware updates, etc and nothing more.

Any ideas?

Netflix needs 25 megabits per second, not megabytes.

Your 2.4ghz should be just fine at 150-300 megabits.

The Ethernet shouldn’t be 1 Mbits though so all I can think is that the RJ45 connector isn’t quite happy and not making contact with all pin outs.

Tried again making sure there was nothing interfering with the RJ45 pins..

Using the browser on the TV and running a speedtest on Fast.com I get 30+Mb/s with wireless connection, and 100 Kb/s with the wired. Makes no sense to me that the ethernet adapter can be so slow. Tried to update the firmware on the TV and it's up to date. When I plug the same cable into my laptop and PC I get 100Mb/s on fast.com

I know that the 30 Mb/s on the wireless is fast enough for 4K so I'm not too stressed about returning it, but I can only assume that it's a faulty LAN port on the TV.
