I nearly had to change my underpants when I saw these prices (ex VAT) - for a 32GB and 64GB hard drive!

...but the speed is tremendous...

True, but apparently the Transcend's speed is up to maggots with performance figures of -- Read up to 26MB/s -- Write up to 8MB/s
The Samsung figures are -- Read up to 100MB/s, Write up to 80MB/s

You can install an MS O/S in about 9 minutes according to some tests done on the two drives, as opposed to the Transcend's approx. 1 hour... :)

Ah yes, I should have checked the specs... that explains the price.

Super*Talent 256Gb 3.5-inch SATA 60/45 MB/sec SSD..... this one costs R 76 323,00 including VAT.

The whole idea behind SSDs is speed. Imagine it to be like a flash drive. It has no moving parts. A SSD has an almost instant access time so data can be located instantaneously. It is much more rugged than a normal harddisk. It won't crash if you drop it whilst operational. The pro's goes on but unfortunately so does the con's... price, limited write cycles, vulnerable to magnetic interference and loadshedding.
