This is a great product if you have a slow computer, because it doesn’t depend on your processor speed or RAM to write, but only on the DVD burner.
The Samsung SE-S204S looks like a basic external CD/DVD burner. 20x DVD±R, 16x DVD+R/DL and 12x DVDR/DL are standard on most DVD burners these days, but Samsung has brought something innovative to the table. The SE-S204S will revolutionise the way external DVD burners are built, sold and marketed - all because of one little button.
To burn movies from a camcorder or other video-creation source, you first have to copy the video or movie to your computer before writing it to a DVD. This means that you have to wait an hour to copy a forty-five minute video to your hard drive, and then wait another hour to burn the file to a DVD.
The TruDirect software, included in the package, makes it possible to cut the copy time in half, because it burns streaming or saved video directly from the camcorder to the DVD, without wasting precious hard drive space on your PC.
According to Samsung, to stream from a camcorder through a PC, a one-hour video will take only thirty minutes to burn to DVD or VCD. Of course, this may cause errors on the DVD if there is a problem with the camcorder connections or the video, but these problems are rare and in the end, this option will save you valuable time and reduce frustrations.
The recorder burns DVDs of a video file like a dream, and if you want to copy directly from the camcorder, the results are equally impressive. To burn a one-anda-half hour video clip from a PC, it takes about an hour (not counting the time it takes the program to process the file) and about five minutes to finalise, which is about average.
If you need to transfer video footage from a camcorder to DVD, there is no better recorder for the job than the SE-S204S. The direct-to-DVD (TruDirect) feature makes this the best external burner available. Although it does seem rather impractical to carry around your camcorder, laptop and external DVD burner to family events, it is actually possible to stream straight from the camcorder directly to the DVD using the TruDirect software.
It’s quite easy as well: after connecting your camcorder and the SE-S204S to your computer, simply press the TruDirect button, wait for the software to load, and press record to create copies of your memories in minutes.
The only downside is that the SES204S costs a bit more than other external DVD burners, but paying the extra moolah is worth it if you want to create DVDs of your ‘memories’ as fast as possible.
