Does anyone know what type of panel the south african qn90a has?

If you buy one, then you have a panel lottery. You might get the VA panel or the ADP/IPS panel.

Sorry for the hijack, but of these two would you suggest:
Samsung 43" QN90B Neo QLED 4K 100Hz TV
or
Samsung 50" Q60B QLED 4K TV

I'm leaning towards the QN90, but is the difference in image quality really going to be that noticeable? I currently have a Q70 and I have no complaints, so I expect that the Q60 won't be much worse?
QN90B. It’s a dramatic improvement over the Q60. You will get far clearer motion because of the improved pixel response time, way better colours, better HDR, more gaming features like freesync and 144hz, a way brighter screen, local dimming, etc. etc.

The only thing to note about the 43” version is that it doesn’t have the wide angle viewing film so you get a reduction in image quality if you view it from wider angles.

But seriously, this is crazy talk, get the QN90B, if viewing angles aren’t an issue. Bigger is also better but just sit closer for the same effect :p

55" and 65" have an ADS panel. The 50" has a VA. I've had the 55" QN90A and currently have 50" QN90A which is used as a PC monitor.

The QN90B is a great buy and they are on sale everywhere now. Just don't update the firmware.

What's the reasoning behind not updating the firmware?
Samsung breaks things and makes the TV worse with every update. It's no secret that Samsung's firmware updates are trash. And turning off the auto-update feature means nothing. Samsung will update your TV regardless.

QN90B is a good example.

Update 1: breaks local dimming
Update 2: fixes local dimming bug, breaks eArc, lowers hdr nits
Update 3. Fixes HDR nits, breaks HDR in game mode
Update 4. Fixes all problems, but lowers peak brightness for all modes.

Forcing users to actually go into the service menu to change Max Lux value to get actual working
brightness levels in all modes.

Samsung has the ability to make a fantastic TV and then **** it up with firmware.
