Samsung UA75H6400 quality

Have been eyeing this tv for a while, and went & bought it on the weekend. Only thing is I am not to impressed by the quality. Probably should have taken a flash drive into the store and tested my own content. The DSTV HD content looks ok, except for the soccer that was on yesterday (couldn't find any sport to test at the time). I was streaming the walking dead through plex and my chromecast and quality did not look nearly as good on the LED as my 51" plasma (also samsung). So my question is, should I return it & go for a 65" 4k LG( www.lg.com/za/tvs/lg-65UB950T ) ? Will the general quality of sport look any better on it? Didn't go for the 4k tvs as I didn't think the HD will look any better and don't believe we will have much 4k content for a while. Going to go back to the store today with my flash and test out today.
 
Not better than a plasma? Surely you jest. Plasma plasma plasma!

Only weird thing I find about your post is that HD looks acceptable on an LCD so I always assumed led would be even better. You got it setup correctly? Is that 51" plasma a smart tv?
 
I can vouch for the LG 65UB950. Had one since Jan, we stream lots, watch 3D and DSTV, TV's performance is really great. It doesn't have all the smart gimmicks like the Sammy, but a Roku makes up for all of that and more!

Look in all honesty you cant expect superb picture quality from a mid ranged TV such as the UA75H6400.

I have done this exercise many times. If you can go for the H8000 or H8500 range.

Nothing against 4K but it is quite pointless at this time as there is no physical standard for it as of yet. By this I mean no physical medium, so all you are going to be doing is taking Bluray content and up-scaling it to 4K.

TV manufactures try to force on us all these new standards without taking into consideration the available content. But the choice is yours.

I am not suggesting that 4K picture quality is not superb but it all boils down to the content we can get our hands on at this point in time vs spending the extra money just to say I have a 4K TV.


I have the 55H8000 and think it is superb, you could go to the 65" version which if I am not mistaken is the 65H8000 provided you have the wall space and minimum distance from the TV as you should not be too close to the large screens. Not exactly sure what is the recommended distance.

Let me know if you need anymore info.

Probably should have worded my first post better, but yes I do realise that the 4k isn't worth it, was more referring to the other improvements that have made to the tv's and thus the 4k tv's being the latter model, is what they offer in terms of normal HD going to be that much better? I am sitting about 3-3.5m away from the tv at the moment.

Yip. Plasma > LCD.

Perhaps look for a Samsung 8 Series 61" plasma (PS61F8000) or 64" (PS64F8000), might still be one or two about.

RIP plasma.
 
what do you guys think the quality is like of the USB and HDMI ports on Samsung TVs?

I've had to replace USB ports on 2 of mine. Lower end TVs but nevertheless both Samsung.

Fully agree, if you had plasma, why did not you just go with the 64F8000 best TV available here.
 
What exactly is the problem with your quality?

Did you switch Motion Plus and all that *** off?

I can send you my setttings for the 48-inch version which should be similar enough at least.

If you are going to be pulling stuff in and out of anything on a daily basis then you are going to have trouble.

Sames goes for hanging stuff off those ports.

If you were operating it "normally" then different story. I have never had a problem with mine, but then I don't use them much.

HDMI also been problem free across three Samsungs.

Can you please post your settings here? I've had my 55H6400 for a few months but not really bothered with set-up apart from turning off the image enhancement functions.

yes, that makes sense. perhaps i'll permanently attach cables and attach flash drive/external hard drive to the cable. the TVs aren't used for TV at all.
 
Here what I posted on another forum some time ago, will verify what it is tonight but I know I'm also running in PC-mode for the PS4 which isn't what you want for TV use.

Picture Mode: Movie

Backlight: 11 (I've put mine on 10 and use the Eco solution with minimum 10 so it brightens up in daylight)

Contrast: 92

Brightness: 45 (I have 46 on mine)

Sharpness: 0

Colour: 50

Tint: G50/R50

Picture Size

Picture Size: Screen Fit

Advanced Settings

Dynamic Contrast: Off/Low (Off for me)

Black Tone: Off

Flesh Tone: 0

RGB Only Mode: Off

Gamma: 0

Motion Lighting: Off

Picture Options

Colour Tone: Warm2

Digital Clean View: Off

MPEG Noise Filter: Off

HDMI Black Level: Low (If applicable) - Make sure your PS4 is set to Full or Automatic in your RGB Colour settings and this shouldn't affect it.

Motion Plus: Off (I'm experimenting with the "Clear" option which seems to work without causing motion blur).
