It is almost a R100 a month cheaper on contract and the specs is almost the same. I just don't trust this whole bada thing

Trust me when I say, the Samsung Wave is amazing.

Yes, Bada is still young. But we are developing for it at the moment and I can tell you that the API is solid.

Expect to see the app store grow quickly.

Can anyone develope software for the phone and is the api freely available?

But they can't develop anything or sell it where they want. Everything has to be approved and sold through Samsung Apps, apps have no access to SMS or call functions, and VOIP is banned. Seems even worse than Apple's restrictions to me, but maybe they will open up in future.

I still think it's a good phone but I'm against these restriction and I think they are something people should consider before they buy it.

What is the difference between the Samsung 8500 Wave and the Samsung S8500 Wave or must I wait for the Samsung S8500 ?

This would be awesome if they manage to pull it off. The differences between Wave and the Galaxy S are minimal. The only differences I can find is that the Wave's screen is smaller (3.3" vs 4.0") and the Wave has a LED flash, Galaxy S doesn't. ;)

If the Wave does get Android then I'll be more tempted to get it than the Galaxy S considering the price :p

Night mode seems decent on the Galaxy S and it has more internal storage to play with. If they accomplish a port for the Wave it would be similar to the HD2 android port ;).

Android is unlikely to be ported to the Wave. I looked into it in depth. If it does it will take a long long time still. Developers are still busy porting Android to the Jet and most of its features don't work. The same will apply to the Wave and you can't just port the Galaxy S firmware as both phones have different hardware configurations (even though they seem similar on a spec sheet).

With regards to the build quality of the Galaxy S, don't believe all this crap floating around online. I own one and the build quality is very good (not excellent but almost) and is far superior to most phones. The only weak point is the backplate which is plastic but it is only a matter of weeks until you can get a metal carbon replacement plate from third parties. Then the built quality will be perfect.
