Good Day

Sure this topic has been covered 100 times - but cannot find answer to my question, did try and search the forum.

I can get a job very close to Sandton City but every-one is telling my how hectic traffic is, is it really that bad.

Planning to rent a place in Paulshof area - will leaving home between 6am and 7am help avoiding much of the traffic - or will I have to leave earlier.

I don't know the area at all - currently not staying in Jhb

Thank you

Leaving between 6 and 7 should be fine.
Try and finish work before 3:30 as well, it's a breeze.

But - get an automatic car for those times when there's a roadblock or a broken traffic light or roadworks or accident or cash in transit heist or or or

Eish... Witkoppen and Rivonia or Witkoppen and Main. What marine said.

It isn't that bad. If you leave at 6 or even 6:30, you will be okay. There will still be traffic, but it won't be that bad yet.

I know paulshof. There are a couple of routes from paulshof into Sandton.

Rivonia road - main route
Cambridge - back route
Main road, then William nichol - next main route.

You can also explore sunninghill , Petervale, lonehill

Leave home by 6h15 and leave work by 15h30 and you'll be fine.

You can also rent in the Randburg area, will take you the same amount of time to get there and the rent is typically cheaper.

If the pay is worth it and you've got flexi-time then go for it.

And what genius decided that this time of year is the best time to be doing road constructions around Sandton City and then there's the nightmare of the construction in the Sandton City parking itself. I thought I was escaping Eastgate the other only to ride into a bigger **** storm in Sandton City.

Why Paulshof? I'd rather look for a place in Blairgowrie or even Fontainebleau. Basically Randburg.

OP- have a look at those areas, and the surrounding areas. Note that if you leave at 6am while living around those areas, you should be fine.

Leave home no later than 6 30, should get to work at 7. Leave before 3 30 and you should get home by 4. Any time after that and it's exponentially more time in traffic. Sandton traffic is bad,

those are terrible times, no time for yourself or family...just be consumed by your job.

Agree (I am not single)

Thanks all for the advice - difficult choice to be made - work in NW and with the future looking bleak in my current company not sure if I must rather make the jump now to Jhb or wait for the boat to sink...which could take 1 to 2 years but might be longer if gold prices go-up again...

Can get a job at a very stable company in Sandton - and with the scarsity of jobs these days not sure if it will be a dumb move to pass this offer now.

I don't know what the offer looks like, but Sandton is probably the highest paying area in the country if you're in IT. It is a bit of a hassle to work there but usually it comes with just reward. And you don't have to spend 12 hours at the office. If you've got flexi-time most people work from 6:00-6h30 to 15:00-15h30.
