By now most of you are aware that we are expecting a planned protest march on Friday 13th September by a “coalition” of 70 civil society activist groups, including Rise Up Against Gender Based Violence and Sonke Gender Justice, under the hashtag, #SandtonShutdown.
The #SandtonShutdown call is an effort to ask Corporate SA to take part in the demonstration and also request funding for the initiative
According to the most recent updates received no violent actions are being anticipated during these actions. However the exact number of participants can not be confirmed and heavy traffic congestion and possible road closures can be expected.
It has been reiterated that this is a sit-in protest in front of the JSE building in Gwen Lane.
Even though JMPD will be managing and monitoring the activities it may still result in delay or partial denial of access on the day.
Protesters participating in the demonstration is expected to arrive by 03h00 (yes 3am) to gather outside the JSE and possibly various intersections of Sandton.

The plan is to create a dedicated area for the protest at cnr Rivonia Road and Maude Street outside the Marc and all along Maude Street
Authorities are expecting 2900 protesters that will arrive by bus, this excludes protesters making their own way to Sandton.
