SAOL 30 Gb

lukev said:
I just chatted to Axxess, asking them if they're going to make a similar offering. Firstly they said they're going to post a statement on their website today or tomorrow, and secondly they said that the SAOL 30gig account will only include 3-5gig of international access, the rest is local only.

I don't know how true the second point is, it's just what the Axxess guy told me.

Then is not the same as now you have 30 gigs local and international combined. Thus it does change if it is true. It would be ok if they can separate international from local but they do NOT, that’s the crux of the matter. If you surf to Mwebs local cash for 3 GIG (heavens, spare me that) then the International is also gone, then you will have another 27 Gig of pure Mweb heaven. Hehe This is my understanding, Get the drift it's disgusting

Hi All,

Let me put you all out of your frustration.

First of all, it is premature to make comments on how big or small other ISP's are without the correct information.
Second Axxess are making assumptions and do not have any information as to how we provide our accounts, furthermore they have no business telling people what they think is what we are doing.

That being said, SAOL have just like IS and UUNet our own international and local bandwidth, we connect into the IP Cloud and thus are able to provide our own ADSL connections. As to our pricing, we just don't believe in ripping our clients off and have been in the market for 10 years and intend to be here for some time in the future. We are not scared of competition and are just doing what we feel is fair to the customer without bankrupting ourselves.

I can confirm that most of our client-base will retain their current pricing beyond November 1 (I.E R299 for 30 gig, R279 for 20 Gig, R259 for 10 Gig), however, that does not mean that everyone who signs up with us between now and 1 November will retain this pricing - we are simply rewarding our loyal clients on a month to month basis.

All this being said, the only thing left to say is that time will tell.

Sincerely
Tarquin Douglass

That unfortunately doesn't really answer the question. Will SAOL be able to offer 30 GB International, shaped traffic for R299?

According to your own staff, no. If that is incorrect please release some sort of press release, post it on these forums or maybe even tell your own staff. Not trying to be bitchy but it would be nice for the consumer (me) to have some clarity in order to make an informed descision as of November 1st.

So it means we should not waste our time to become one of your clients as we will be discriminated agaist because we are new ADSL consumers. We are all looking for the best deal we can and at the time we got ADSL SAOL were not the best in price. I for one did not even know you existed until a short while ago. Maybe look at You advertising ?

That confidence building for prospective new clients. Stick with what you got because we will not treat you the same as our old timers.

Also the nice written acknowledment do not clear up the issue of 30 GB International or (3 GIG local + international) + 27 Gig Local only !

Read the full post and the attempt to clarify the whole frustration as You just created some more

Hi agree

SAOL is playing a mind game...they cannot give dirrect answers. We don't needs that with Telkom playing with us as well.

Bottom line will SAOL offer 30 Gb at R299 for new sign ups, Yes or No.Thats it

Don't mess with us !!!!!

Hi,

I am not going to get into a stone throwing exercise as we are still the best priced ISP around and offer great services too.

To clarify:
Around 75% of our client base will remain on the current pricing, this includes full international for 10, 20 and 30 Gig accounts.

We are not discriminating against anyone, we are still working for all our clients’ interests, and MOST of our clients remain as is for now, on a month to month basis.

If you purchase an account before the end of this month you will get 30 Gig International for R299.00 for November as well.

Our new pricing structure for ADSL is also for International bandwidth.

let's face it, dude: you are only providing that pricing to people who don't use their bandwidth. once they do, you're gonna nail them.

why are we being switched at nov.1 then??

Tarquin, this does not give me great confidence to switch to SAOL! OK, so according to you a new subscriber will still get his 30GB for November, but then? How long in advance will you give notice of a price increase? I'm not going through the same rubbish with 1 Dec price increases replacing the old hoo-ha :(

I think you're missing the point here - point is that SAOL offers the best price regardless of the "pre-november" prices - 10 Gig @ R349 is the best I've seen so far (unless of course you want to use local only bandwidth).

I dont mean to burst your bubble, but I manage some large BGP tables at the biggest ISP in the land and we dont connect with SAOL, so I dont quite know what they think nor what they are trying to B U L L S H 1 T here, is you want I will send all the AS number of the Local ISP's we peer with / ? and they are not one of them. Liars.

Craig, I get that SAOL is the cheapest, but I still don't understand why new subscribers can join for November and get 30gb, while existing subscribers are converted already?

Well this shouldnt be a problem, if they can connect to the IPC cloud themself. Im still wondering wether Telkom is giving some ISP's the upperhand again, re: allyoucaneat first doing the 30gig cap.

Umm, im confused... so you're saying that if I had to order an account from you guys right now i'd pay R299 for 30gb come 1 November? If so, where can I signup... ;)
