I dont mean to burst your bubble, but I manage some large BGP tables at the biggest ISP in the land and we dont connect with SAOL, so I dont quite know what they think nor what they are trying to B U L L S H 1 T here, is you want I will send all the AS number of the Local ISP's we peer with / ? and they are not one of them. Liars.

You obviously dont peer with everybody!
Anyway it doesnt matter what you think, time will tell.

On http://www.saol.com/adsl.asp it says "IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT TELKOM WILL BE REVISING THEIR ADSL PRICING STRUCTURE IN NOVEMBER, ALTHOUGH WE TOO WILL HAVE TO MAKE CHANGES TO OUR PACKAGES AND PRICES, WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE OUR ADSL CLIENTS THE BEST VALUE POSSIBLE."

So.. how are you gonna keep the 30GB accounts @ R299? Thanks.

can we sign up for _next_ month and still get the R299/30gb prices ?

That is 30 Gig international I would say, already confirmed down in the post ??

Guys, Please, lets not show how stupid we are, no one has there own bandwidth except Telkom, SAOL, could not afford to pay for 30GB accounts at R 70 per GIG come on ! Stop the B U l L S H 1 T !

Err, you seem very uninformed on how the whole thing works. ISP's (yes, thats SAIX, IS, UUnet, MWeb, DataPro, etc) buy their own circuits from Telkom, these being local, international etc. Saying that "no one has *their own bandwidth except Telkom" is a bit naive and boys like IS would highly disagree with you since they pay alot of money for their own dedicated physical circuits.

Which ISP is that? Do they know you're ranting on in public like a 12 year old?

I believe what PostmanPot is after, is whether one can sign up for the R299/30GB account, but only have it activated on the 1st of November. The idea is to avoid paying for October if you already have an existing account with another ISP. I'm in the same boat...

nail on the head ;)

Hello all those that seem to have a problem understanding what SAOL is offering here. It is quite simple...In order to qualify for the 30GB package for R299, you must sign-up before the 1st of November 2005. This means activation in October, and yes, paying the pro-rata fee. If your account was only activated in November, it would, by default, be a November account, and thus subject to the new pricing structure.

Marko, that still doesn't explain why new members in October retain that pricing for November, while existing subscribers switch to the new structure?

The pro-rata fee is R229.
It is only a small percentage of existing subscribers that are switching to the new pricing structure, a measure taken to ensure that the majority can retain their current accounts.

So how is the 'small percentage of existing subscribers' determined, randomly? membership length? ? ?

...by them not using their allocated bandwidth... which kinda defeats the object, doesn't it?

Was that confirmed by SAOL Phantasmo? dont feel like rereading all the posts on this topic

Hi

"As such all ADSL solutions are offered on a month to month basis with a 30 day notice period."

Am i corrent in assuming that if SAOL says on 25 nov that the price for dec is R1600 (just an example),
that we'll HAVE to pay ?? (not being able to give the notice)

Or am i missing something obvious ?
