Hi,

I currently run my practice with a Vodacom 3G dongle which has a 3GB cap. The 3G dongle is connected into a 3G router which also makes provision forADSL connectivity.

The 3G connection has been quite unstable over the last couple of months, and I also run out of data on a monthly basis.

My questions are as follows:

1. What is SAOL like as a service provider?
2. How will a 1mb ADSL line compare to the speed of a 3G vodacom signal on HSPA?
3. I see SAOL currently offer a 10gb cap incl a 1mb line rental for R165 per month on a 12 month contract. What is your opinion on this?
4. The also offer a 10gb cap on a 2mb or 10mb line, incl line rental. What would the advantages be of taking the faster line?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I wouldn't go with SAOL.

I did.. big mistake. They introduced uncapped a few years ago. Had to move line to them etc, on 384line. I was very sceptic to move my line.. but did it. Then not even 3-4 months into the uncapped.. I hit 10 Gig.. speed was thottled (used to do 50-60gig in the previous months). Phoned them. "O.. you have reached your limt.. you are throttled now".

They changed uncapped product with no warnings etc. I was pi$$ed ....

Don't do it....

they use cybersmart's backbone. and cs offer "home uncapped" which is a "lite" product for lite users. cybersmart do the throttling i think. as there's no definition for "uncapped" in sa, they (meaning isp's) can basicly do what they want...
