SAOL Summer Slam

very decent.

Not sure if those local gigs give you newsserver access though. It may be blocked as with cybersmart.

Still a great deal.

If they were blocked, would local torrents still work? Kinda useless service otherwise... :erm:

Reply to email:

We use Saix, and we host our own infrastructure, however, because of this ,
Saix does not allow us access to their news servers.

Anything else local works exceptionally well.

Took them 12 minutes to reply  Should sign up just for that :D

I've always wondered, how long does it take to transfer an adsl line? Iis there potential for something bad to happen. Losing your slot on the local dslam can see you without internet for months.

I'm sure this is just an electronic thing, but still, what exactly is the story?

You have to cancel the ADSL portion of your line from Telkom. Then submit a new application via your ISP. The time from part 1 to part 2 - I have no idea.

384k line? ... no thanks!
I've asked them a couple of days ago about this for a 4mb line and this was their reply. I also asked if they split their local and international (I can dream cant I :p)

Good day Sir

With regards to your query , we can do this package on a 4mb line for R559.00/m. Unfortunately the local bandwidth only kicks in after your 3Gb bandwidth is finished.

I wasn't aware that they don't allow access to newsservers. Thanks for saving me the hassle. I'll stick to my do3 then.

I called them couple of days ago.... They give you access to torrents and other p2p but no news server.

The service is pretty good and the price is very good considering its a one price adsl bill.

My move from helkom to mweb took 2days. From mweb back (after they stopped free local ) was about a week.

Not too bad, all things considered.

Just had another look at this, as am now moving and need to cancel line etc and get a new one.

Compared to DO1:

R199, 1GB, 10GB, Line Rental

DO2:

R258, 3GB, 20GB
Summer Slam:

R249, 3GB, 50GB

As I'm not really interested in the Int, the 50GB local is great! Add a 30GB IS account there, and you have almost 90GB. This is effectively an uncapped 384k solution, as the max I've been able to do on 384 running 24/7 is ~100GB.

All for R380 :D Cheaper than DSTV :D

Anyone got a better suggestion for a 384k local user??

There isn't anything cheaper than line rental + 53GB for R249. The only thing that might be better is Webafrica's own local accounts when they launch their new network. But even that probably won't beat the 50GB + line rental, so it might just replace your IS 30GB account.

This would be the best package in the [-]world[/-] SA if it included a news server. Still good though!
