I don't usually order using free delivery any more but someone sent me a laptop that's like $200 (free to me) and used registered ems.

The thing is that the package is in the country and the tracking says "missed delivery". Although I haven't received any slip yet and its not by courier so not sure why It said "missed delivery"

I have a feeling it was taken by someone but is there anyone worth contacting to find out if the package is at the post offices somewhere?

I've emailed two emails but Im doubtful of a reply.

Call the call centre with the international tracking number, they can give you a local tracking number. From there you can track it, it's probably waiting at your post office. But without the local number you've got no chance.

I have the local tracking number that I entered into the tracking site on SAPO website. So it shows up.

Go to the post office with the number and ask them for it then :)

That 'Unsuccessful delivery' notification is quite common. Chances are good that it's at your local PO - they won't deliver to your door/postbox because you need to give them money before they release the item.

You're probably right but usually they would send a slip with the amount payable. Probably changed their process or something.

The slip got lost by the postman :p

Update.

So I emailed the post office and they give me the SA tracking number and tell me its at my post office branch, I should go and collect after showing them the tracking number.

So i go there and get told that I need the slip number for them to find the package. I told them I had not received any slip and the package has been there from last month. They said I should contact the person back and ask for the slip number.

Of course I'm annoyed now but I email the person and she tells me "they can't expect you to have a slip number when you haven't received one" she understands my situation.

Not sure what else to do.

Weird, at my local Post Office a local tracking number has always been sufficient to get my parcels.

Never thought I'd say this, but the SA Post Office is by far the worst it's ever been. At least 50% of what I've ordered has never arrived. In fact I'm lucky if I get local snail mail every 2 weeks.

Some other user also said that the local tracking number can be sufficient.

But I'm getting told I need the slip number. Which is a dumb thing to tell me when they didn't even send one out.

Get someone else to help you, if there is more than one employee.

I've collected countless packages without any slips, just using a tracking number and sometimes I'm asked for my ID.

Will do that, only get a chance on Saturday. I'm sure someone else is there too hopefully.

I went expecting to just give the tracking number and receive the package

Ask them to go look for it. My post office goes and checks even if I don't have a tracking number and go there to ask.

Someone is hoping to score a laptop...

I drove almost a 100km a couple of weeks back to collect a package a day early from a post office that haven't seen me in the last 30 years.

The package was already packed in a vehicle for delivery the next day. I just gave them the tracking number and they asked for my ID and my cell number and then phoned me on the cell number to check it.

I'm sure that is normally not part of the service, but they sent someone to pack out the delivery vehicle and search for my package.

If they can do that at a big main post office, they can work on a tracking number at any post office.

For my impatient someone tried to rob me of my Note 8 outside the Post Office.
Luckily I sort of expected something when I saw a group coming towards me and could stop the attempt.
Would have been an expensive trip and all because I was impatient and a bit scared that my package could be damaged in transit.

Tracking number should suffice. Heck, my local SAPO send me an SMS when a parcel arrives, it has no reference number in the SMS. Just says show SMS to staff. I tried that and they promptly handed my parcel over.

Thanks guys, I'm going Saturday again. The person who sent me tracking number and an image showing the package at my local post office is confused as to why they cant find it.

Not sure whats my next step if I go and they tell me I still need a slip number :|
