basically what the topic says the price difference is roughly R600 - R700 i wanna know what the difference is. While we're on the topic of cards

I wanna buy a gfx card in the price range of R3300 - R4000 MAX has to include shipping and delivery etc i was looking at the radeon 4870 looks quite good for the price seems to keep up with the GX 260 which is R1000 more at least

Any assistance is greatly appreciated


oh and yes my pc is up to standards
E8200 2.6 ghz
8600 GT 512 mb
crap ass mobo 945g chipset or something
1 gb DDR 800 mhz mem although runnning @ 667 atm
 
ya but for that money whats the best and as i see it 1st place GX 280 R7000
2nd place GX 260 R5000
and for R1500 less at R3500 the radeon 4870 with 5% less performance roughly than the GX 260

NO difference AT ALL. They are the exact same card with different stickers.

Add another 1GB RAM.
 
Also: 280 GTX is now R6000 and 260 GTX is R3900

alright one more thing is Product Name Force3D HD4870 (ATI Reference Design), 512MB DDR5, 256Bit

The only difference between brands are what you get bundled with it and sometimes what warranty you get.

The ATI reference design would probably come without anything bundled (other than drivers, presumably).

You should get another GB of RAM, by the way.

Yes ALL the CARDS out at the moment are "reference design".

he knows he needs more ram, 2 people have mentioned it already..
 
alright ordering some ram with it, also how much difference does a motherboard REALLY make thats the next thing im saving up for.

Top end boards might offer a few more fps in games, but i doubt you'd notice a difference in real world terms just through swapping motherboards. Unless it was a REAL piece of crap no-name board..
A good board will allow you to overclock your CPU to it's full potential, be more energy efficient, and offer a more stable system.. etc.
 
Mobo makes no difference at all if you aren't going to overclock.

(Obviously get one with the features you need... Number of slots, ports etc.)

Even if you are going to overclock, you don't need one of the very expensive ones. I've got a relatively cheap ASUS P5B, and it takes my Core 2 E6300 to 2.4Ghz from 1.8 without breaking a sweat.
 
i think mine is quite **** its meant to be 1333 fsb 2.6 ghz E8200 667 mhz ram but the ram is 800 mhz had that checked

Go for the cheapest available 4870 ... and if they have stock grab it ... I'm still waiting for my stock :( ... and maybe upgrade the board and memory while you at it ;)
 
i had that force 3d 4870 in my shopping cart at prophecy and now the card is totally gone from the site .. now they got the gecube one :-/
