Despite soaring crime rates, dedicated investigators have faced two years of lagging procurement of forensic materials in the South African Police Services. Stockouts of basic items like fingerprint kits and powders hamper the processing of crime scenes, while software licences for some digital forensic equipment have expired. Carte Blanche investigates the consequences when investigators are hampered in their daily tasks.

Agree with the ISS dude at then end, we have a leadership crisis. We have some excellent people in SAPS.

However, we are also losing them.

Close the police. If they don't have money to purchase the equipment, they can in any event not do any investigations. Retrench them all and save the tax payer a lot of money. Just keep the uniformed branch in operation.

Don't even need the uniformed branch. Most of them are corrupt and also too dumb to even write a report. All the guns can be handed out in the informal settlements. there is no ammo for them in any case. Kangarro courts can take care of the few incidents of crime we might have.

Must be so frustrating for
those earnest detectives.

In the private sector, we had 14 days to finalise a matter. If not, weekly progress reports had to be submitted to the mandate until finalised. Granted, commercial crime is very different to contact crime, but just shows what was expected expediency wise.

Feel for these guys.

SAPS DNA forensics out of stock:

Behind a paywall

What a circus.

We live in a failed state. The only way we will have a properly functioning police service is if we privatise it and pay for it out of our own pockets like we have to for private security.

Those areas which can't afford to pay for private police/security will have to contend with roaming gangs and warlords. We're already seeing that happening in some of our townships.

e.g.

I can't imagine that good people will remain working for SAPS for long. Can you imagine how demoralizing it must be to work on the losing side?

Helicopters don't fly
Ambulances don't run
Only one fire truck in a major city
Potholes everywhere
Electricity supply ****ed
Hospitals stand unfinished
Democracy perverted
Corruption everywhere
Leadahs living in luxury despite Mandela's claim that they will live like their people
No regard for the law, or law enforcers except where it can be used to oppress the people

Feel free to add to the list, but sounds about right for a world class failed African state..

SA is a failed state

What is more useful? A dog turd or the cANCer?
Obviously a dog turd.

At least a dog turd doesn't pretend it's capable of governing.
The ANC has no interest in governing - the are in the business of ruling. The ruler takes what he wants and that is the way. The only way to stop this madness is a full blown tax war - big businesses should start taking the reigns and withholding PAYE and other taxes until the government capitulates and turns itself around.

We are all part of enabling corruption through forced taxation!

Big business will never oppose government. They suck up for fear of nationalisation and the BEE and AA cadre deployees do the governments bidding.
