SAPS Prisoner truck ambushed

Seriously ! Enough is enough already. If the thugs are brazen enough to attack police, then how do we, regular people stand a fu*king chance ? Thank you ANC, I get more disillusioned with each moment that passes

Huh ! Wait a minute, is it 16 in total that escaped in the first instance ? And were the whole sixteen rearrested, or were 12 of the initial 16 rearrested and 4 are still at large, or did 28 initially escape and 16 get re arrested with 12 now being still at large ?

POLICE STILL SEARCHING FOR PRISON-BREAKERS

Gauteng police were on Tuesday still searching for a group of prisoners who escaped while they were being transported from the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court.

"At this stage we have not located the remaining suspects but investigations are continuing," spokeswoman Captain Doniah Mothutsane said.

About 28 prisoners escaped from a police truck on Friday afternoon when a group of gunmen ambushed a police truck transporting them from the Ga-Rankuwa Magistrate's Court to New Lock Prison.

The truck was travelling on Lucas Mangope Drive near Medunsa when it was ambushed by an unknown number of people.

No one was injured during the shooting. Police acted swiftly on Friday and managed to re-arrest 16 people but 12 were still at large. She said the prisoners were mostly arrested for house robberies.

Mothutsane appealed to members of the community to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the remaining men.

"If any of the suspects have gone to their families, we appeal to those family members to come forward with information. They can call 0800-10111 or contact the nearest police station," she said.
