Hi Guys
Friend of told me yesterday that since 01 Jan 2024 SARS now charge you an additional 7% on the shipping fee....is this true or not?
I mean why on the shipping fee?
Thanks

No, and VAT is not supposed to be charged on the shipping cost either but the idiots who do the customs admin often will charge you VAT on that, so check your invoices before you pay the duties.

Your commercial invoice should state the value of the product separate to the shipping cost.

The tax is on the value of the item. Nothing to do with shipping fees.

I think you just get charged inflated VAT at 20% or something like that

Probably was charged disbursement fee, inspection fee, VAT of 15% on 110% of the value etc.

I see other countries are now doing what SARS has been doing for over a decade, hammering everything they can. People are squealing.

Which countries?
Most European countries the customs have always been strictly enforced, Oz lost duty free imports for personal use many years ago, the USA is still duty free for items under $850 though, they have it so good in the USA.
