into my 3rd month now, they seem really inefficient this year.

Spoke to a friend who works there, apparently if you happen to have submitted simultaneously with a large batch it takes a while longer. I usually submit closer to deadline and poof 2 days later sorted, this year I did it early and boy it's taking long!

Slightly off topic, in this thread people refer to being audited. By this do you refer to the scenario where SARS requires you to submit supporting documentation, and they then verify these details?

Or is the audit something else?

It's the verification process, They may or may not request additional supporting documents. SARS are doing an audit on every return where "non std" deductions are claimed, like depreciation and work travel for instance.

Was audited two years ago, nothing since.

My income and claims did change quite a lot in that year so I suspect they have some form of system that analyses trends and picks you for an audit if your are x% outside those

This is my second year running, but I have disability claims which I assume also makes them audit me

I have had that for the last 10 years! Prove your medical expenses. Every third year prove you're disabled. All to pay NO tax!

Been more than a month now, and still no word from SARS. I know I get audited every year, it is now std practise if you claim depreciation on a vehicle etc. Last year, the audit took just more than a week, and I had my refund, this year taking forever.

im still waiting,

audit was completed, but there is still a "special stopper" apparently it was placed when my refund bounced back 3 times from FNB, but it seems like nobody knows how to remove it

I was audited last year and it took them 3 months and I'm a VIP taxpayer (with their VIP tax unit).

After 5 months they finally finished my audit, this was the first week in Jan. However, I am still waiting for them to pay out the money they owe me a month later....

Make sure you bank details show as VALID on efiling... login and one of the side menus have a sub menu "maintain sars registered details".... click banking details and check there... most common problem at our firm...but SARS does not even notify you... otherwise...good luck..
