BS. It never applied to clothing and textiles. Sars also is yet to have their policy on duty free low value goods and gifts aligned with international norms under WTO which is a body SA subscribes to. That alone will see them losing a fair share more.

Excuse me while I get another cooldrink and clean my keyboard. South African companies have never added value and you can get an order from Temu quicker than a local one. They also miss the mark if they think charging 30% more will close the gap in their 4x-8x more prices.

True. I think Americans paid 0 tax and duty on imports under $500 in value. For SA that's R350 or R550 (and twice per year I think) but that's not $500.
I think that's been removed for Chinese imports because it was abused by Shein, Alibaba and Temu.

Here's a random Japanese tech and general online store and how they deliver.

You can pick the time of day you want your items delivered. And delivery is free over R400 equivalent in terms of order price, free for their entire country, which is made up of islands, mind you. Compare to SA where they charge you money to deliver, and who knows when, an item across 5-10km.

They've been trying but can take a hike. Most loyalty programs are structured as a discount and not a payback. The world is moving towards a closed ecosystem in any case where money stays in the system. China has this already where you can choose to receive money in like a coupon pocket. The government wanted people to go cashless. So they did but not through the official banking channels where they can keep tabs on it.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it again. Government should not be getting more or spending more to get more. Governments are inefficient and will spend whatever they get. The only way to make them spend less is to give them less. We need large scale tax reform as the system has become completely lopsided and is working for politicians and not the people.
 
Regardless of all of this, why would anyone WANT to shop at a store that sells toxic products and refuses to advise you if anything you have purchased is among the toxic products? This happened to me - after reading in the news about the toxic products sold by Temu and Shein, with no real indication of WHICH products they are other than 'clothing items', I contacted Shein and they insisted on playing dumb and expecting me as the customer to do my own research on this (with f*all info available to do so). Never again will I support them.
