Sars declaration leaving SA Airport holding

Hello.
It's my folks first time going on a holiday since lockdown , I see there is some sars declaration that one has to fil out online before you leave SA

I read it's voluntary (for now) it's all about declaring any cash goods etc that you taking and so they have recorded when you return.

I'm trying to avoid doing this beause they not tech savvy to do it on their phone or online and I won't be here when they leave to help.

Has anyone who has traveled recently from king Shaka International or others been asked when the leave for this declaration form?

I've left and entered SA through CT half a dozen times this year and I've never once been asked for it.

Same. I enter and exit SA many times a year and have never seen this, done this, or know of anyone ever doing it. Don't bother.

If they search your luggage at customs when you get back, you need that form to prove that the electronics and high value goods you have in there were not bought overseas and subject to excise duties and vat.

It’s highly unlikely they will do this. I’ve left and entered SA on average once to twice a year since 2015. Never been asked or stopped.

I never bother declaring anything.

This form has been a requirement for years now, it just used to be handed out by the hosties on descent and at the SARS offices opposite the check in counters, only difference is its now digital.

I have. Normally you goto the counter and declare electronics etc. I never declare cash...ever. I always worry they tell their buddies what to steal or take from you when youre on the plane. Yip people like to steal from luggage while you're asleep. Sad but true. Keep all luggage locked.

So if you have a rolex or the latest camera or so, then yes you can otherwise an irritating custom official may ask you to pay for it.

I take photos of my invoice and leave it on my phone lately, so if they should ask I show them where I bought it from and tell them to take a hike. I have been stopped by customs twice and always show them the slip.

Suggest take local shopping bags too. Make it look like Woolworths, Edgars, so on.

To be honest unless you goto the US or so, electronics are cheaper locally, if you know where to buy it from. I dont bother buying any electronics abroad anymore.

SARS may start deploying people to do it. Quite honestly they are desperate for money. 1 million middle to high income tax payers has left SA. They have been trying to squeeze every drop of water from the rocks figuratively speaking. I think they made a R160 billion budget shortfall a month ago, as such government bonds are up too (so government must pay more interest). Yip desperate times. The gravy has run out, even the water too to dilute it.

This part is way more important to know, especially for old people or people who don't fly much. OP, tell you parents not to keep any valuables in their carry-on, unless they can lock it properly.

There are lowlife scum syndicates operating like this. No airline is immune.
