Just keep all the documents as SARs can reopen an already assessed tax return.

Had a return from 2013 reopened and documents requested including the current year before a refund was paid out.

I have them all ligned up and saved on multiple hard drives as well as on email. I tend to be anal about keeping financial stuff backed up.

I am almost sure I will be audited next year and the disability form is valid for 5 years so it will be the same document next year basically with my 2016 medical aid tax certificate.

Don't know whether this has been answered before, if so, please point me in the right direction.
I decided yesterday to register for e-filing to spare myself inconvenience and what not. This morning I got a notification with the subject "Request for Supporting Document for Registration" (albeit it was classified as "Individual Income Tax (ITR12)"). Do I need to send them anything to complete registration or are they somehow looking for my ITR12?

Um, didn't the notification e-mail tell you what supporting documents they needed?

Got it, tried Firefox instead of chrome - at first it didn't want to login altogether, then moved to Firefox developer edition and boom, was able to download a form without empty fields that had info. Seems they want proof of address as it has changed since I came on the system.

I will appreciate some advice. I moved to The Netherlands in November 2015. That means, four months before end of the tax year. Therefore, SARS owes me a bit of money (I paid tax for a 12 month salary, but only earned 8 months of salary).

I filed my tax return on 4 October 2016. They immediately asked for supporting documents (selected for verification, like I am every year because of my additional RA I suppose) and I uploaded it that same day. About a month later, I just receive the same letter asking for the same documents, which I upload again.

Now two months later, nothing. The original assessment and statement of account clearly show they owe me around R30k.

So my question: How do I get my money back? I can't find any way to contact SARS, apart from the 0800 number on the website. Any advice will be appreciated.

You can try contact them via live chat, if it's still functional. Last time I used it was 2012 tax year

I do not see that option anywhere. I only see "Help me eFile" which requires me to phone them while sharing my screen.

Do I understand correctly that my accountant can't have me on his e-filing profile while I have my own profile with access to the same facilities (my profile can still exist but without the same functions)?

Your accountant can add you to his profile and request a "Tax Payer Move" request. You will then get notified of the request and approve it on your profile. You should approve the request with "Shared Access". this will allow him to be able to complete and submit your tax returns without you losing any of your current functionality on your profile.

Only registered Tax Practitioners can do this on their profile.

Didn't see an option for "Shared Access" :/

I don't know how it looks from the client side. I do know that when I request it from my side, the notification I received is that the move request was authorised with "shared access" and the client still has full functionality.

Is your accountant a Tax Practitioner and has his efiling profile been setup for tax practioners.

There are 3 types of efiling profiles:

1. Individual
2. Corporate
3. Tax Practitioner

Each has their own set of functions that is not always available on the others.

VAT refunds at it again !!!!!!!!!!!

I export only and get monthly refunds of VAT. Been doing this for 28 years always on the 21st. Had 2 audits in the early '90 s and again last September which took 3 months to settle. No corrections were done just time wasting. Supplied the docs 3 times by hand and 3 times by efiling.

Yesterday, within 1 second of my efile I received an email telling my I'm being audited. So it's automatic with no real reason.

Perhaps they're angry at being investigated for time wasting to make collections seem better?

Anybody having the same problem ? Buying locally without VAT ?( some companies do but it's a schlep.)

And I notice in the RA option, there's now a field to indicate the total amount contributed toward that fund. Is that the total value of your RA including growth/loss or do they expect you to work out how you've paid into the thing over the life? And then what happens if you've transferred between RAs over the life, do you only include total for the current RA or must you track back across the years? Unless they mean to compensate me for my losses this requirement is rather ridiculous.

It's the total amount of contributions made to an RA.
The easiest way is to request a tax certificate form them.
