SARS eFiling 2023/2024

What do I need to submit for car claim for work travel?

I have a log book for my milage that shows the work travel against total travel.

I have invoices for the the maintenance. I forgot to add car service unfortunately.

Do I need to upload fuel slips? After a year of storage those things are faded and difficult to read normally. It's barely visible on a scan. Can I leave the slips out? It will be on my bank statements that I'm submitting.

Did you need to book for did you just pitch at a branch?

I need to register for eFiling (they couldn't verify me) but I can't get an appointment on their portal. I've been trying for a week :-(

Depends on how you want to claim. Must see what works out better. If you just claim KM then you just need log book. If you claim actual costs you will need all the other documents. But sometimes just sticking to the per KM model works out better and will be simpler.

The soonest date I could get for an appointment was mid September. I went into a SARS branch and waited in a queue.

I am in George though. Larger cities will have longer queues.

Thanks. Wish I knew that before submitting.

I added the fuel costs already. I'll scan the fuel slips and try make it more visible. Not much I can do if they reject it.

So when checking my Statement of Account, I see this:

2024-08-21 -- Electronic refund

I assume this means refund will be paid out on Wednesday (the 21st).
 
Got a message this morning from SARS that they did the refund but it was returned due to the account having been closed, this after I added my new bank details on my return.

I followed their instructions to update the banking details on the app.

Received message tonight asking for:
Proof of account
Bank statement
Another proof of address
Photo of my ID
And a Selfie of me holding my ID document with a piece of paper with today's date and the case number written on it.

I have done all this now. I am hopeful to get my refund by the end of the week. It's half a months salary so I am looking forward to having the money to fix the brakes and ignition of the motorcycle.
 
If I make a telephonic appointment to assist with my submission for say next month, I understand I need to upload my documents so they can review and assist on that date of the appointment.

My question: is there any time frame to upload it, ie does it have to be at same time I make the appointment, or can I upload the documents the day before the telephonic appointment?

I uploaded documents a few days before the branch visit I booked. They still wanted the originals when I was there.

I am sure you can upload everything the day before or a few days before.

The worst is I know SARS doesnt stick to their own timelines.
I've had a verification previously that took 3 months, I had an audit done that took over 12 months to complete (supposedly 90 working day turn around time). It really grinds my gears that these people are allowed drag their bloody feet, but if you're late by 1 day, they come down on you like a ton of bricks.

Out of interest what does a full SARS audit entail? Do you kist submit a bunch of documents they request or do they come to you and do it onsite?
 
got a appointment for 30th of September :-(

So I did a booking for telephonic booking for my yearly submission for tax return. It said I have 24 hours to upload my documents but thr sms and email notification said I can upload before the date I booked.

So which one is it that I have to upload my documents by? Within 24 hours from.now or do I have up to re date to upload?
