Plus, if you own a R20mil jet, its gonna cost an absolute bomb to keep!!! A mate of mine owned a little 1man plane, cost him R10k/month hangar fees. Thats JUST to keep it in the friggen hangar?!

this is not rocket science here...............if your friend is using his little red aeroplane for business purposes then income minus expenses equals net income. do the math please. gross income will never be shown where there are huge expenses in a business of this nature, especially when there are planes involved.

Well I applied to register as a tax payer back in February, still no reply. They obviously dont want my money.

you need to call them for your tax number, they dont let you know. This is what I had to do. Just phone the callcentre and they should be able to give to you over the phone.

exactly - there are other ways of getting money. but the point is, even though they now own the asset, they now have the asset i.e. paid for the asset the money is now gone. it doesn't matter where the money came from SARS have to prove where that money came from they cannot just say the person earned it and not inherited it or won it in a lottery perhaps.

If it's an inheritance, they would have had to pay inheritance tax on it and SARS will know about it. If you won the lottery, you still need to declare it on your tax return. Legally, SARS has every right to know where the money to pay for assets came from - even if it's from a bank robbery.

There's a reason we have a whole mess of laws dealing with donations taxes, inheritance taxes, capital gains taxes etc. - specifically to ensure that regardless of where the money to pay for such assets came from, SARS knows about it and takes thier slice. When the value of your assets is so obviously mismatched they will come knocking to find out why.

Back when I worked for an audit firm that also handled tax returns for high net worth individuals we regularly had to compile valuations of assets and liabilities to go hand in hand with them, specifically for this reason.
